Log&Capture Issue: TC reads, but no image

I have searched on this topic but I can't find any results within my "definitions" of the problem.I am running FCP6 on a Macbook Pro so there are no issues with processor speed here or anything along those lines, and I have also successfully captured footage already within this project.

Problem is when I open the log and capture window the timecode reads and runs from the capture camera within the log can capture window, but the video that is coming from the camera is not showing up within the log and capture window and will not capture.

I am running the camera through my external hard drive which is connected to my computer via firewire 800. I have also tried to capture just through my firewire port on my computer with no success. This is frustrating because it was working fine just a short bit ago. Any help would be great! Thanks in advance!

What are you capturing from and double check that you are using the proper capture presets. I switch between various formats at work and sometimes I'll forget to change the Easy Setup and FCP will still control the deck, but it won't show the video because the capture setting is wrong.

I have tried that too. I'm thinking it has something to do with the external I am working on because I jsut tried disconnecting the external and ran the fire straight into the computer and it would work, I then try to plug in the external and it goes away. So I think based on that its safe to say that it has something to do with the external... but I have no idea how to fix it from here.... Thanks for the help so far but anymore advice will be great.

Trash Prefs

Trash Prefs

I had the same problem and used an old and very useful solution: trash your preference files.
Go to: user/Final Cut Pro User Data/
There you'll find three items called:
Final Cut Pro 6.0 Prefs.fcset
Final Cut Pro Obj Cache.fcmch
Final Cut Pro Prof Cache.fcpch

Trash them or, if you're afraid of lossing something important, move them to your desktop. Now restart FCP. FCP will generate these files again.

IMPORTANT: Don't forget to change all your User Preferences and System Settings!!!
(number of undo's, autosave etc.)

They are all reset to default because of this action

This worked for me, so give it a try.

This is good to know thank you! But what ended up working me was tricking the computer into thinking that the capture camera and the external hard drive were something of one unit by attaching the camera to the external then attaching the external to the computer. No idea how or why this worked but it did and so I was able to get the rest of the tapes in. Thanks for the help and if the problem comes in again I'll give that a shot first. Thanks Tijs.
