Premiere Pro 2.0 very long loading times?

Hi all,

I've been using Adobe Premiere Pro 1.5 for many years & recently decided to upgrade to version 2.0 of Premiere Pro.

What I immediately noticed is that it takes way way longer for my projects to open up using Premiere 2.0. It takes on average between 20 to 23 mins. In contrast, Premiere Pro 1.5 loaded quite fast. Is this because Premiere Pro 2.0 takes up siginificantly more resources from my PC's CPU & memory?

My PC specs are :

Athlon AMD 64 3000+ with 2GB of DDR2 RAM, virtual memory set to 2046MB(min) to 4092(max). Running Windows XP Pro SP2a (32-bit).

Thanks in advance for your helpful comments.

hmm what type of project are u opening up? doesnt sound right... i've never had a project take that long 2 open, and were talking a 1.5hrs timeline wiht effects etc...

I'm just opening a blank Adobe Premiere Pro 2.0 project, or a very simple project that is a just a few kilobytes small. But still takes around 20-25 mins to open.

Yea, that's definitely not normal. I'm able to open pretty much any project in 2.0 within seconds. Large HD projects with large amounts of materials took longer but no more than 2 minutes.

Yeah longest load time i ever had was still under 5 minutes. Thats a little odd, maybe your hard drives are old and slow as well as everything else too? Did you build the system or buy it out right? Whats the hdd specs?

maybe his system is low on resources and its bogging up, hard to say but its definatly not normal.

if u have nothing on your computer .... clean it up and start fresh. Or get yoruslef a new hard drive, they are cheap, install windows and a fresh copy of premiere and see if that does the job. If that works then its a problem with either your drive or sotmhing that u have installed that's in the way.

THats what i would do @ least, from my point of view its much simpler to just get a new hard drive and run through the install, then to try to figure out whats wrong and perhaps mess up some other softwares(that is if they ar important to you)

Hi all for your comments. I have 3 harddisks in my PC. The first one is an IDE harddisk, 200GB, where I intall only software (Win XP Pro, Adobe Premiere Pro, After Effects, Photoshop, burning software - any s/w essential only to video editing) My 2nd harddisk is also IDE with 200GB & my 3rd is SATA II harddisk with 400GB. My main Adobe Premiere Pro files are stored in the 3rd harddisk, which is the SATA II one. I store all my video files in the 2nd & 3rd harddisk only so that if I have to reformat Win XP in my first harddisk, the video files will not be erased.

Actually, in the past I have uninstalled, re-formated & re-installed WinXP together with all the s/w mentioned above into my 1st harddrive. I've had to uninstal, format & re-install WinXP many times because Adobe Premiere Pro 1.5 would eventually slow down & become larthagic & slow to response. So I recently did a totall clean install of Win XP Pro, loaded all my essential video editing software & installed Premiere Pro 2.0 instead of 1.5.

I am beginning to suspect that my WinXP Pro software is not really stable & it's not so much an issue with my video editing softwares. But I've re-installed WinXP Pro many times in the past & after some time, Premiere Pro will begin to slow down & become not so responsive.

Does this mean that I have to uninstal, format harddrive, re-install Windows XP as many times as my s/w becomes unstable? It's really time-consuming & a hassle. Plus my first harddisk is going to break down due to excessive wear & tear due to so many re-formats

Would you recommend any Windows Registry cleaner software that I can use to perhaps clean up my Windows registry so that there's not so much 'junk' code in there to slow down the overall performance of my PC? Btw, I have anti-virus s/w, anti malware, anti spyware, anti-keylogger s/w installed on my editing PC & I keep them up-to-date almost everyday. Could this be the problem? Also, when I open an Adobe Premiere Pro 2.0 project file & hit <CTRL>+<ALT>+<DEL>, I notice that my poor processor is working at 100% peak performance even when my project is just sitting idle. It stays at 100% peak performance almost constantly, which is not normal. Why is that?

Thanks in advance.
