Is there anywhere in LA that has loads of used film equip (lights, c-stands, etc.)

Can someone give me a film equipment place in LA to go and physically look at the equipment? I'm not one of these ebay guys who can just buy something from hong kong and pray when it gets here it will be in working condition.
 
Are you looking to rent or buy? If you're looking to buy, it's been my experience that you're going to pay primo used prices from the rental houses/used equipment dealers. You may find a few deals here and there, but you're going to have to go private party in order to find the "steals".

Are you looking to set yourself up for a number of films or are you looking to budget for a single film?
 
Looking for the steals. Yes, shooting a film over weekends over a long period of time, so buying works better for me. Any other suggestions? Is there some place in LA where private parties sell these things?
 
Wooden Nickel sells used lights and C-stands at very reasonable prices. They are also the best deal in town on rentals.

And they're very friendly and helpful. They're at the top of my list when I either rent some gear or when I'm recommending a rental house.
