How To Export To DV Tape

I just finished editing some stuff on FCP and I need to export it onto a Mini DV tape, Now i've connected my panasonic HVX200 to my computer via firewire and i can capture stuff from tape into FCP, but i can't figure out how to go the other way. I've read through the FCP user manual and the method it seems to describe doesn't work on my camera...any help would be greatly appreciated

Make sure your camera is set to VTR mode... see first if you can see the video in the viewer when playing back via timeline.

Wait -- what is the format of the sequence??

CaptM

Yea thats the same mode. I also need an answer to this as I need to export back to a mini dv tape but Final Cut Will not let me.

like all i'm getting is a blue screen when i record....final cut acts like it sending it to the tape, but its not recording anything and i can't see the footage on the timeline on the camera

Look... you kids want help you HAVE to start answering the questions put to you.

Damn kids!

Ok...

First things first... let's get the video showing up on the LCD as an external monitor. OK?

Christ!

View - EXTERNAL VIDEO... make sure it's set to FW NTSC and ALL FRAMES.

Then, play the timeline. Do you see it in the camera?

If so -- you'll be fine.

MAN! Don't elementary schools teach people how to read manuals anymore?

CaptM

What manual would you suggest reading as i read through both FCP and the HVX200's manuals and i didn't see anything regarding sending to tape...anyways

what questions are you reffering to that weren't answered?

Also i set external video to FW NTSC it plays in the preview window on FCP with no audio and does nothing on my camera....

so still no luck....i just don't get why this is so complicated

Never mind i got it working now......for some reason final cut wasn't recognizing my camera but now it is again and i can view the clip..

well i thought i got it working....I can view the image on my timeline but i can't play the image.

And when i tell it to record to tape it just records the audio now....making progress...but still not there...any ideas as to why i can't view the video while it plays only still frams? and why i can't record the video

You are both idiots. And deserve everything you get.

The question was...

Can you see it on the camera's LCD display.

That and using the VIEW menu and external video... and following the path of the video going out via fw....

It is ALL in the FCP manual and if you weren't so damn useless I would have shown you all exactly where.

Go make your bed!

lbut its not recording anything and i can't see the footage on the timeline on the camera

there is no need to be rude, and i did answer your question right here in the above quoted post when i said i couldn't see the footage on the timeline on my camera, thanks for the lack of help and the insults were not neccesary

And i don't know what manual you have for FCP but the manual that i recieved with final cut studio does not mention details about any troubleshooting. It goes over the basic process on how to send it back to tape and that process wasn't working and thats why i came on here to ask for help.

Maybe you should re-think spending your time on a forum for help if your not going to do anything but insult those that ask for help

You are correct -- I misread what you wrote.

If you are too lazy to try the things I've suggested then you deserve the insults!!

LACK OF HELP??? You've got to be kidding!!!

Did you check the VIEW menu? Was it set correctly? Look it up in the manual if you are having troubles.

Crybabies.

you guys need to learn NOT to piss off the Capt. He makes some great tutorials.

People need to learn how to troubleshoot on their own. It's not hard, use your brain. And no one can help you unless you are detailed and answer questions. We aren't sitting there with you.

Have you ever printed to tape before?
How is your camera/deck connected to your machine (DV to FCP, DV to HDD to FCP)?
Have you tried using a different FW cable?
Did you refresh your A/V Devices?
Have you tried re starting FCP or your machine?
Is FCP going into Print to Tape mode?
Are you getting any error messages?
What Machine and OS are you running on?
How much RAM? HD Space? FCP Version?

HAHA!!

Thanks, Shane.

I'm testing out my new attitude toward people who don't care to learn on their own. Does it fit me?

It does bother me a bit (usually not THIS much) when people have as much invested as they say they do and then can't do some basic proper trouble shooting on their own. And come here for free advice when all they NEED to do is spend some time with the manual and tutorials (that are also free and in the same box they already have).

But alas. Maybe those days are gone... maybe I'm just a dinosaur who needs to make room for the upstarts who know it all already.

Ain't that the truth. If reading the manual is too much for them, they may want to invest in Final Cut Pro HD for Dummies.

whatever your all assholes forget this forum i won't be back here again for help with final cut...i asked a detailed question...and i answered your questions.....i've read both the final cut manual and i've read the HVX manual...in fact reading the manual is the first thing i do when i get something, i tried this for several hours trying to trouble shoot on my own with no luck, then i posted asking for help....it was my first time going back to tape and i'm also a new FCP user, i'm sorry to have bothered you asking questions.....but then again...isn't asking questions how we learn? apparently not in your world.....good luck with your new attitude and maybe you should re-think talking to people who are new at things and are atleast making an attempt to learn it

Then go back and read the post again... and watch your mouth!!

New or NOT... answer the questions you want... don't the others. Now it's up to you.

The answer is there... you need to get a grip and come down off YOUR attitude.

What was the question?

Funny thing is he never had a attitude till you started insulating him and calling him names. You're a very small man.
