why wont 24 bit wav audio files play on my system ?

I render an audio file out of Vegas in wav 24 bit. It never plays. Only 16 bit renders play. Can this be set right ? Is there a codec or something to be installed ?
 
Same thing. Just doesnt play on my worstation. Same music i render it to wav 16 bit. It plays fine. Same problem with interleaved audio even in video renders. If i render a video with 16 bit audio it will play. If i render 24 bit audio it plays silent. ???
 
It sounds like this could be a hardware or driver problem. I assume you are having trouble playing all 24-bit files, not just those rendered by Vegas?
 
I have none of my software here to see if this even makes sense, but...

Maybe it is being rendered as Broadcast wave (or Scott) and the codecs aren't there for other apps?
 
I would test but i guess most of them were vegas rendered. Even if i render a video with 24 bit audio then it plays silent. What should i do ??
