Is there a way to optically correct for the vertical offset the flip causes?

I am curious if there would be way to design a flip adapter that has no vertical offset without having a major disadvantage (in light loss etc.) over the traditional flip adapters. I just find the vertical offset a little bit annoying. It makes it difficult to balance the rig properly since the center of gravity is quite high. It also makes the rig in general more difficult to handle... and it looks just wired but that is just my subjective point of view...

wouldn't it be possible to use two mirrors in the optical path to accomplish that...? would there be any demand for such an adapter?

"Abbe-Koenig type prism"

Yes the prism works, but you'll end up with a bazooka looking adapter (very long). it's very expensive ($600.00 + up , depending on type glass, coatings, etc.. ) and hard to find a company that will make them in small quantity. It's actually two prism seamlessly bonded together, which in my experience doesn't come out perfect. Stick with the original still camera design. :)

Just my 2 cents.

wow thanx for the info, this would flip the image both vertically and horizontally. Does anybody know how much longer the adapter would approximately become. Would it be longer than the sgpro with the "spacer tube"?

An Abbe-Koenig prism is a type of reflecting prism used to invert an image (rotate it by 180°).

Just to give you an idea the smallest OAL of this prism is 122mm, that's with the face of 35mm x 45mm. So figure you flange distance + your focal length, then you have to find room for this big bulky piece, you're looking at 5" - 6" long if not bigger. I've been there done that, it's not worth it :)

Imo, while the letus extreme is a great adaptor and all, and flippers are really useful, I firmly believe that the less glass in front of the lens, the better. Therefore some company should make a camera with an in-camera flipping option. That way you don't have to depend on a flipping adaptor, and you'll have less glass in front of your lens - not to mention a lighter setup.

Yes that would be nice, we were shooting with the JVC HD201 and SGpro, the JVC has the built in flip feature, great stuff :)

Very very soon, everything in the new iFocus 35mm adapter is going to be interchangeable. :)

Our products part of the website should be up shortly.
