Letus Extreme and Sony EX1 test short

Reds look good! I had some more hazy diffusion on some shots but I closed down a stop and it was way better. Really depends on the lens and the light

Hi Philip:

Very nice footage, you have a great eye.

A couple of questions?

1. Did you use any on-camera filtration?

2. Does the timelapse function work in a similar manner as the HVX does?

3. How much post work do these clips have? Magic Bullet or anything like it or just basic color correction?

Keep shooting!

Dan

.9 nd Grad on a couple of shots

Very similar

Yes magic bullet was used to tweak the colours and some swing tilt on a couple of shots. I get my real swing tilt lens soon

Cool. Thanks Philip. You have a very good eye. How is your lighting? I will check out your website. I occasionally need to hire DPs in the U.K. for remote assignments and overall, we have had very bad ones that do bad lighting. Would be great to put you in our Rolodex if the need arises again.

Best,

Dan

great shooting, Philip.

The EX really has the HVX's number! Its much sharper and the lowlight absolutely is in another league. not needing use of a marshal monitor puts it over the top for me.

aside from outstanding issues (namely nle support and vignette issue) the more footage I see the more I think about selling my trusty hvx. though panasonic isn't making it easy with their free 16 gig card offer, knocking about $900 off any used price!

Tell me about it... At the going rate for a used HVX200, you'd be better off keeping it and renting it out for pennies a day instead of sellin it.

That's probably what I'm going to end up doing since Hydra's gone now. Pick up an EX-1 and keep my HVX.

Besides the work flow, how do you get the "2fps hack/350d" timelapse look on that camera?

unlike the hvx the ex1 already does 2fps out the box. I had my camera set to interval 1 frame every two seconds with the shutter set on slow 64

something is missing in the sony ex... besides colour depht... the latitude?

from what? from your own experience using one?

There is a lot missing in the ex1. That is why it is the price it is! If it had everything and was still that price then nobody would buy the $50,000 dollar cameras. Compromises always have to be made to reach a price point and for what the camera is and does it is nothing short of amazing.

I have just shot solidly for 4 days with it instead of my f350 and i missed only the xdcam discs and then longer lens. I loved the weight, the image quality, the sensitivity. The list is endless.

I will post examples soon. My website should be up again soon and my blog will be updated. All clips will be hosted by Maxim at Aerial film who has been a star!

Great looking footage Philip. I alos enjoyed reading your blogs. Did you opt for the 77mm ring with the Letus Extreme or did you get the 82mm and use a step down ring. I am going to purchase an EX1 to replace my HVX200 which I just sold. There is always a chance I may shoot with an HVX200 in the future, but I am wondering if it would be best to go with the 77mm ring.

Thanks for your time,

best regards,

Chris McGuinness

i have a 77 mm ring. I would go with that or the 82mm and get a step down.

If you go to my blog there is a still from my my latest project that I shot on the ex1 and extreme
