SD to HD upres filter? or ideas? Plugins?

I need to use a bunch of SD in an HD project.. I saw on TNT where they did a sort of stretched blur of the left and right parts of the screen to fill the empty space.. so basically you have the main sd picture, plus a stretched blur that fills the sides..

I could probably build this in after effect, or motion(if I spent the time to learn motion) but I'm hoping there's something of the sorts or some other type of SD to HD filter avail that doesn't skew, but just helps color the bars??

Any ideas, or plugin suggestions would be great..

Also upres plugin suggestions?

Tx Shane... I checked out "Instant HD Demo" and wasn't impressed at all... maybe I was doing something wrong, but I really didn't see much of a difference between "Instant HD Demo" uprezed stuff, and FCP upressed stuff... both were not great... maybe I did something wrong.... and "Instant HD's" FCP integration is a bit of a pain, as it requires you to nest clips into a sequence to work properly...

I checked out your compressor thing and I will try that...

I have a few clips that can affoard to lose the top and bottom croppings... I've been playing with some layering and effects to scratch and blurr the edges out to fill the frame.. seems like they're be a plugin to do something like this already?? Plus having to set up a 3 layer timeline for each shot is going to be cumersome... Any ideas come to mind?

a quick follow up... Compressor does a great job... workflow is a bit of a hassle.. and for those of you that don't want to stretch your footage putting (dont think Shane covered this in his tutorial, but maybe he did) adding a custom padding of 120 to left and right leaves the side bars and upresses the footage...
