Remember this is the prototype relay v1, the new ultra sharp relay is right around the corner! Hopefully they can get enough orders to make a complete line.

I had the chance to beta test the letus extreme35 for 2/3" b4 mount cameras. (Thank you letus boys!) This is a great product, I had a lovey time shooting with it. These clips are from a project I shot a few weeks ago for a bronze sculptor (Ripcaswell.tv- also interviews using the extreme35/b4 are on there). This was shot with an hpx500 in 720p/24N @ 180degrees with a letus extreme with the new 2/3" relay with nikon primes (24mm/f2 + 50mm/f1.4). I lighted it with less than 500w total light ( soft box on a boom above (150w), arri 150 with gels/diffusion on the left, and another arri 150 with a snoot to light the back ground)

This is the raw footage highly compressed for a quick uplaod, I am currently uploading the HD version.

Enjoy,

Hunter

wow. i wonder, do you lose less light because its on a relay lens? hmm?
seems like 150 watters are doing one hell of a job. I need ot use at least 650 frensels to get that something simlar to that.

You're probably not lighting small statues papa, and it should be more light sensitive
on a 2/3" chip camera.

That's really nice looking. Hard to believe it's just a lower grade test build, I can't wait to see the productions optics.

Did you test out any low light situations?

It's such a Letus world. =D

Nice footage! Can't wait to hear about more Letus surprises.

The Hpx500 is allready an extremly fast camera @ about 800-960asa (I hear differences in speed and I havent tested it personally). So when you put an adapter on that only looses .5 stop of light. Low light woulnt be a problem. Let me say that I DEFINATLY would not use an adapter for everything, I really like working with ENG lenses and with 2/3" you can get pretty shallow DOF if need be. But for stylized interviews, drama, artsy stuff, this adapter is my best bet!

Oh yeah, the sculptures were about 2-3 feet tall, the back drop was about 3 feet behind.

awesome! If this adapter came out,, an HPX500 with no lens (around 11K) coupled with the Letus adapter would solve a couple problems that the 35mm adapter crowd have- not enough light and a balanced rig- no dealing with the complicated and odd looking shoulder mount rigs. It would be somewhat of a midpoint between an HVX200/35mm and Red.

I guarantee you.... If the Letus EX comes out with a B4 adapter. im selling my HVX, My car and my mom, and buying a HPX500 and the adapter. Thats what i need in my life right now.

this looks very nice but its hard to really tell without having some stuff in the corners - while the center might be sharp its the falloff to the edges that really can suffer with the adapters - shooting a test chart would be ideal

TheRealMe:

I havent taken a picture of the rig yet! I actually dont have the adapter right now. Its at letus headquaters being reworked with a new relay. (the old relay was at about f/2 wide open, this new one should be at about f/1 at full wide)

smelni:

There is no light fall off on the edges, its from my actual lighting. Test charts are on their way...

Oh yeah and one more thing Smelni:

The letus adapter with the relay has more edge to edge sharpness than the fuji HD lens we both use. Pretty crazy.

if that is true then I am sold on it - because I am actually most concerned with focus falloff -

not that i dont beleive you but I need to see to believe.

If you need a beta tester - I am ready

I'm with timur on this one. If a good relay lens system is made for 2/3" cameras i'm bumping up the the hpx.

Any updates on this one? Can't wait to see it perform. Is there a way to download your HD files for offline viewing?

major stuff....a small breakthrough....go letus extreme...push the boundaries firther on....having a letus on a hpx 500 would be really nice
