T.M.I. / D.I.Y.: use # 672 for boom pole and shock mount

Here's a T.M.I, D.I.Y tip

So our beagle has a slightly enlarged prostate ... at his young age (4 dog years) it's probably a symptom of an infection and nothing to worry about (he had some antibiotics for it). But to be sure, we need to bring a urine sample to the vet tomorrow.

Problem: Even before his prostate issues he was prone to squirt in short bursts so that he could mark the most territory as possible (scent governs all for a beagle) and the prostate issue has only exacerbated the problem.

Solution: The DIY Urine Catcher for the low-rider doggy :cheesy: All you need is a couple of hundred dollars of audio gear (A boom pole for low reach, and a shock mount to hold and angle the specimen cup) and you are "golden" (pun intended). Just saddle up next to the little guy and when he hikes, you go in for the kill.

CAPTION: (read in Bobby from King of the Hill, i.e. raspy Texan little boy, voice) "Uhm ... Whayer you plannin' on puttin' that exactly Dahyud?"

It was pretty funny, it scared the heck out of him at first - me jamming this thing under him every time he lifted his leg, running after him like I was chasing butterflies  but he got used to it, tripped over it a few times ... and eventually ...

MISSION ACCOMPLISHED :D

Ha, ha.

Maybe I should have tried that with my daughter a few weeks ago when they needed a urine sample from her (not potty trained yet).

Instead, a female nurse taped a bag to her to catch the urine when she peed. Problem: The female nurse taped it closer to her "other" hole than she did the appropriate hole, and the urine was not caught. Kind of made me wonder if the nurse was indeed female or not.

I'm kind of amazed that your contraption (as ingenious as it is) actually worked. Your dog must have much trust in you, Jack :)

Later,
Jason

heheh, he forgot about it after a while. Being outside was a big help - they really are much more interested in sniffing the ground than anything you are doing. Plus I didn't get that much.

Don't know if the same would work for your daughter in what I assume (and hope) would be your back yard though :)

Our french bulldog had an enlarged prostate at age two, the way they got the urine sample is sth i would never like to endure myself - I´d rather do it your way, even with the 416 still in the shockmount...

:grin:Bwahahahahaaa! Jack that's excellent! Thanks for the smiles this morning... jeez even this thread proves that you know how to tell a great story.

Look! I caught some!

The best DIY ever. Thankfully though I have no need to collect urine. But if you ever need a hand, I will hold the boom for you :P

Now that doesnt sound right...

LOL
but you get "best alternative use of emoticon" of the year.
"look I caught some "

Sparticus, I don't wanna know how they got it, but I have an idea. Was your bulldog ok?

And Noel, thanks for the offer ... I think ... :)

Haha you guys are all crackin' me up this morning ...

jdajda
"can't I just mount it to the camera?"

ROFL

LOL! That's awesome. Hopefully your dog will be alright though.

Funny coincidence, I work in research... specializing in Urology.
I know just about everything there is to know about the prostate, as sad as that sounds.

Great pooch pic! And your "it was like chasing butterflies" comment had me rolling with the image of you in your little flat following him everywhere with that contraption. You made my morning.

Heheh ...

Jason, I don't even have P.A.s when I work with Barry G :)

Mark it was OUTSIDE dude. Lol. Thankfully Bernie is not into lifting his leg in the house. I should have worn gloves though, it was freezing out.

Terry I actually thought of you when I wrote that golden comment.

I think you finally found your calling, Jack. So STOP making award winning films and START putting that HVX200 to better use... by getting us some footage of you chasing your dog with that boom pole. Come on! It could become a viral video on YouTube and you'll be more famous than the Chocolate Rain guy.

Do it!
