LOOKING TO CONDUCT SHOOT OUT in BROOKLYN

Tim Naylor

I have an SG REV 3 and my LE should arrive anyday. Want to test after Thanksgiving.

I'm looking to conduct a proper A/B shootout between the two adaptors. Hard, Soft light, Long and Short lenses, Low and High Apertures, the works. It should take about a day. Will need a few hands to move lights, switch lenses, slate, take notes.

I really want a definitive answer on which adaptor is the best performer in terms of sharpness, bokeh, artifacting, edge to edge sharpness, light loss, etc.

Anyone in the Brooklyn area interested?

Any Brevis owner (only new editions) who'd like to add a third adaptor are welcome.

"My LE should arrive anyday. Want to test after Thanksgiving"...

Is that a Letus Extreme? Do you have a need for two adapters or are you not happy with the SG REV 3?

Love the SG 3's image, hate the flip in post. Raylight will soon make that a non-issue for FCP users like myself. Until then it's a big rendering headache, especially if you shoot 1080 (which I do).

I'm hoping the LE takes care of the flip without sacrficing too much in the way of optics. We'll see.

I may end up keeping both if either does great things the other can't (ie. the SG can shoot extremely high shutter speeds as well as high F stops, up to 11-16, without artifacts - very cool, few adaptors can do this).

I'm still watching for your results Tim, as Im sure others are, who are sitting on the fence!

The beast has arrived. The LE is built like a tank. Totally Bond slick. Magnetic battery door - make me weep. Weighs a ton though. Has me thinking is the weight worth it? Must figure out that hand held idea I have for mounting BMX pegs to my rods. It balances out to about the same as SG + Marshall Monitor. If you use it with a monitor make sure you got a decently rated head (no less than 30lbs).

Anyone who mounts this without rods is on crack or will crack their camera sooner or later.

The lens mount is superb. The Nikon mount has a 1/4" deep cylinder attached to it that slides into a beautifully fitted sleeve, then fastens with one Allen screw. Simple, totally alignment proof with no play. The Machining is on level with PS or Chroziel, etc. Okay Letus Guys where are you keeping the slave labor? How can you make it so solid at that price?

If the Optics live up to the Build Quality there will be a paradigm shift in the low cost adaptor market as well as a shake out of the "less thans". I know it has sent every manufacturer to the drawing board. If they come out with a B mount relay it's all over.

Okay I just took it out of the box half an hour ago. Will report the real deal next week. Happy Thanksgiving y'all.

So I'll be testing Sunday 9 am my place in Brooklyn. Timur you good? Bring your HVX/SG and Nikon mount. Anyone else interested email me at cinetim@gmail.com. Make sure to put Shootout in subject heading.

I'm subscribed. Can't wait to here Timur and Tim's thoughts on the Letus Extreme, not even in comparison but all around.

It really IS built like a tank, though, ain't it? I went around thumping it for a while because I couldn't believe how solid it was.

Hey Tim,

Hmmn. Heavy? I was thinking it wold have a smaller form factor than the M2.

Which rail set and follow focus do you anticipate using? Does it appear that the unit would be too heavy for the indieFocus or Cinevate setup? Unfortunately, I'm tied up Tuesday AM. Your results will be helpful, as as I'm ordering the Brevis, SgPro or Extreme next week.

Happy Thanksgiving Everyone.

Hey Kwan, thanks again for the Glidecam assist.
