KINOMATIK MOVIEtube JR Lens Adapter System

letus extreme= 1300,movie tube jr.= not worth the money since letus extreme.basicly for me the hunt for a more then able adapter is over.i'd take the extra $3000 and invest in other needed gear such as light and sound.

its a static adapter, which could mean a grain issue as you stop down. Love to see some footage when this thing shows up. The press release sounds good!

And Kinomatik did'nt answer my mail ( comparing to Aaron who answered every mail!). That's a reasons for me to buy the extreme and not the Kinomatik (besides the money).

I have used the P + S Mini 35 the Redrock M2 and the KINOMATIK MOVIEtubeST.

The MovieTube is the hands down winner by a long shot.

The Static screen has no perceivable grain and is by far the sharpest adapter on the market. It also works through the entire aperature range of the lens without any increase in grain and without turning into **** when you get to the higher stops. This is One of its biggest advantages over cheap adapters. When shooting handheld it feels like you are holding an arri 435.

I love the Mini35 but for my money I would go with the movie tube st or lt

I haven't tried the junior yet but I would be willing to bet it looks just as good as it's bigger brother.

Compared to the other two the redrock is junk and has serious edge to edge sharpness issues. BUT its about 5 times cheaper!!!

The main problem with all these adapters is that they loose a ton of light.
Rendered my HVX200 at about 100 ISO

I recently bought a letus extreme and am waiting for it to arrive!!!! The extreme only looses .5 stops of light!!! This should Render my HVX200 at about 250 ISO
I hope it arrives by this weekend because I have a shoot on monday and don't want to rent a different adapter.

thats odd because i had lots of grain problems with the movie tube when i used it. it neeed to be wide open to look decent.... MAybe they upgraded it?

Was it digital noise from low light or actual grain from the screen?

I ended up shooting everthing wide open for the most part at night because it is a serious light eater. But during the day with ample day light it's great. You can stop down your hvx and open up your 35mm lens or open up your hvx and close down on your 35mm lens. Realy helped me maximize the range of my DOF.

I used ziess super speeds.

I used the regular Movietube from Abel on a gig about a year ago. I hope they made improvements because what I used is junk. Beautifully built though heavy and awkwardly laid out. And the optics just blow. 100 asa on an HVX is being charitable. It loses at least two stops. I'd say it's closer to 64 asa. In terms of sharpness it falls apart especially with wide lenses. We even had Abel set it up for us (not like there's much to do). Shot it with Zeiss primes and there's no way it could resolve a rez chart even to standard def. We ended up ditching it and shot the rest of the gig without it.

I'd rate the movietube in terms of pro-mists flters giving it a promist 2 rating. if you like 70's porn (ie. Emmanuel) than it's the adaptor of choice.

I've rented or owned PS tech, PS tech mini, Brevis, Sg and Movietube, and I thought it had the worst sharpness of the lot and unforgiveable vignetting. I still own the SG for a few reasons: best edge to edge sharpness, no grain (even at high stops), no vigentting and phenomenol bokeh. Light loss is reasonable at 2/3 stop. I'm waiting on my LE and will do a battery of A/B tests and keep the winner. Will keep you posted.

For me if I'm going to spend 5Gs USD on an adaptor then I might as well have just waited and put all my money into Red [which would have been 4 years down the line and I wouldn't have had the shooting experiences I've had now].

But as it is I could only afford 4Gs on a camera [HVX in UK sterling at the time of purchase] and to slowly buy the additional bits and pieces. My SGPro is a godsend and gives me fantastic pictures, reasonable light loss and didn't break my bank.

And it sounds like there's a divide on the bigger adaptors anyway so I'm glad I went with the SGPro which has great reviews consistently.

I'd put my SG against any "pro" adaptor. I think it's way sharper than PS or Mtube and every other low cost adaptor. Should have my LE next week. This should be an interesting showdown. One will find its way to the Marketplace.

If the LE edges it out that would be a God send as I can't stand working in Flip mode. It doesn't annoy me in production as I never use the camera's LCD anyway (Marshall and/or BTH 1700) but in post with FCP it really blows chunks. Why the good people at Raylight don't have a flip option on ingest like they do with Vegas is unfortunate. If that existed I'd shut up and be happy. Please Raylight, make an FCP flip ingest upgrade soon. I'm not ready to part with the SG...

Now if only SG or LE could fit to a B mount. HPX 500 would have new meaning....

I know this is offtopic. What's the ETA? Need those options bad. Contact me at via mbox or at www.timnaylor.com

Thanks.

The non-recompressed flip function is about 2 weeks away, the noise reduction another 2 at least. That's assuming you don't mind running it in Windows. What format do you shoot, hd 720?
