Animated Storyboards

I'm looking for some software, which I can use to create animated storyboards. Does anyone have any recommendations? Storyboard Artist I'd love to try, but the price is only something God could afford. Hopefully the cheaper/free the better.

I'd be using it for thing's from action scenes i'm shooting.
- E.g. this one soon that involves a train and a small helicopter.
to things more natural like:
- E.g. people running, talking, meeting.

Thank's

Well there's google sketchup, they have a free version and I believe Hudson has played with it and liked it.

There's Toon Boom Storyboard, still not real cheap.

There's Daz Studio which you can download for free but I believe you might have to register with Daz to get a code. It is free and will get you a couple free models a week if you are on top of their promotions. Daz Studio will also handle most Poser models. You have to manually animate things but it's not too bad.

BTW, like your company name. Jean Lafitte, New Orleans pirate is part of my family tree.

Are you talking about static boards that are cut together? Why not just draw them and then cut them with your NLE?

Or are you talking about something more like previz with 3D elements that you can move a camera around?

Thank's Crynogenic. That's really interesting about Jean by the way. I looked them up via google. How does it feel having a pirate in your family tree?

& TC, I'm talking about you're second paragraph. Sketchup is something I do for that. It would be ideal if there was another thing a little bit more.. advanced than that.

As for Toon Boom, I um. Paid for that. Tried it, weren't for me. Havn't tried Daz yet. I have heard of it though, rings a bell. Think I get there emails in my spam box.

We're using Sketchup on a Bruckheimer feature, right now...

...seems advanced enough, for storyboarding/previs purposes, to us...

YMMV.

I envy you, unbelievably. I love Jerry Bruckheimers films, big fan. Favourite producer of all time. Gave me career advice once. Fantastic legend, can I ask which film?

Interesting comment by the way.

G-Force. Basically talking secret-agent guinea pigs who save the world from murderous AI household appliances.

I sh*t you not.

If I may ask...what was Jerry's advice?

I just looked it up, looks like an interesting film. He tried comedy once with Kangaroo Jack. It'll be interesting to see how this turns out. Best of luck on the making of it. I'll definitly watch it in the cinema of course.

It was on the Warner Brother forums a couple of years back. I was asking if there was any advice he could give me. Course it was full of the moderators who work with him so I wasn't particulary expecting a reply. I think out of 3 years he personally only replied to something like 14 people. But he did and said something to the effect of: 'The best thing you can do is get as much experiance in you're craft as possible, books, internet, research, practical experiances.' basically going down the line that know you're stuff before you dive in at the deep end I think.

Greatfull for the advice, I didn't know alot about film at the time.

Cheers Matt, I'll definitly look into that in the morning. Added to Favourites. Time for sleep now z Z z

What about something like Poser?

It's not that expensive, and would do exactly what you want.

I'm pretty sure that's what was used in the Hollywood Camera Work series.

True; it's a royal pain to change poses of Sketchup figures, by comparison; Poser figures come up rigged for posing to your exact needs. Then you can export them to whatever environment you want to work in.

I second that. Sketchup is cool for static shots, but moving the figures is a royal pain in the rear...
