Here's how to make Fake Blood

Real human blood is thicker than water and begins to coagulate as soon as it's exposed to air. That's why fake blood needs to be sticky and goopy.

Start with 1 cup of clear corn syrup. Add red food coloring and 1 drop of green to create a nice dark red blood.

To imitate foamy blood (as it might appear in a sucking chest wound), replace half the corn syrup with clear dishwashing liquid.

There you have it! I scared the 5h@ts out of my wife the other day. Happy blood making!!!

also chocolate syrup would work with red food coloring. if you want the blood to be coming out of your mouth, thats the way to go- tasty and effective

I had good luck with maple syrup with some food colring in it too. Works really good if it needs to run out your mouth. Tastes good too.

I generally do a bit of light corn syrup for the base, then add a little chocolate syrup for opactity, red and a touch of green food coloring, water, and cornstarch. The cornstarch helps with opacity among other things.. this can then be thinned as needed. Thin it with water to the desired level.. the base looks great thrown in a big glob onto a wall or the floor. Thinned it can be pumped through tubes to spray, and still maintains the desired opacity and coloring. :)

I generally use some coco powder instead of cornstarch as a thickening agent. It adds some good color to the red and SLIGHT green color.

A cautionary tale to those going the cornsyrup route. I've had experience mixing the dye-syrup, and while I did follow the advice of a friend and add a few drops of blue (helps make it more crimson) which helped a lot, in the end corn syrup will always get pink when you smear it. It's fine as long it just sort of flows but as we all know, blood doesn't always work under such ideal conditions. Everytime I see pinkish blood I want to smack my face because I've been there and wish people would go a different route

I dunno... when I smeared my blood (sounds violent eh?) with the coco powder it did a pretty good job... I'll make another batch soona nd post up some pics of my recent work.

Real maple syrup (from actual maple trees) is $5-10 for a Liter and much too thin. Corn syrup is $1 for a gallon. "Pancake syrup" is usually caramelized colored/flavored corn syrup.
