making something/someone disappear in fcp5

hi everybody,
hope someone can help me. i'm shooting an interview with a band and wanted to try that effect which looks as if someone disappears out of the scene (while the scene stays exactly the same), then reappears in the scene again, either in the same place or somewhere different (the scene having stayed the same the whole time).
any help would be appreciated, also, might as well throw another line whilst i'm here, if any of you might know of some cool editing tricks like the one above - i'd be much obliged indeed.
cheers

It's pretty simple- you shoot a locked off shot- with the person. Then have them leave the scene and keep shooting. Then in post- you do a cut from where they are there to when they are gone.

You could do a movable green screen behind each person in turn... this way you can composit them in and out as needed while still keeping the natural lighting of the room and interaction of the people.

Easier to do than to explain...

i did something similar a few years ago.

Just shot a plate with no one in the scene and then shot the scene with actor walking through.

In the edit suite I simply used a combination of masks, opacity and layers to bring the person in and out.

You can see it at work in my film here...happens after the titles.

Just like Noah said. But don't touch the camera, let it locked on the same position. You should also avoid changing elements of the scene, because you would get "jumpcuts" when editing. I made this old trick shooting in a garden and then I almost became nuts masking the moving elements :Drogar-KnockedOut(D...
