Tamron 28-75 vs. Nikon 28-70?

Anyone have preferences over either of these two zooms? - I'm looking for an f/2.8 in either and the Nikon is almost 3 times the Tamron - in my photo days, I remember the Tamron being the "it" lens for shaprness even over the Nikons but not sure if that has changed - in speaking to some local photogs & dealers, it still seems like Tamron wins out due to cost and Nikons either not being as sharp or not so sharp over the Tamron to justify the cost difference -

thoughts?

My own experience with Tamron lenses is that they are inferior to Nikons. I have used two and both have exhibited significant softness on the edges when used with an adapter.

I've used the Sigma 28-70 with a Brevis and it was a bit soft for me on anything further in than about 35mm, which was my reason to step up the Tamron, but it appears to have the same issues.

I ahev a Tokina 28-70 and it looks pretty good but haven't compared to a Nikon. Also have a Tokina 80-200 which I use all the time and think is pretty damn sharp. Also never ahve compared to a Nikon. My research said in general the Tokina's were the best of the cheaper glass.

I'm looking for a local Tokina to test - I've also heard good things about them however they appear fairly hard to come by.

My local repairman told me in general the glass was very good in them but the build quality didn't compare to Nikons so treat them well.
