modifying captured avi

is there anyway to modify an avi that was just captured? meaning i captured a tape that was previously captured and aditional footage was shot to fill up the tape. now the last clip and the new one run together. i would like to split it in the raw avi captue file before i start to edit so the clips would be easier to manage / organize. also to remove some images frome the end of a tape that sometimes apears on the the begining of the next captured tape that makes viewing a thumbnail worthless to see what is on the clip. thanks in advance.

If your camcorder (or the capture software) does not automatically split up the files when a new scene records on top of an older one, then it's a bug of either the camcorder or the capturing software. I bet it's your camcorder's.

That's a known bug of Vegas.

Anyways, to answer your question, I don't think that there are splitting tools for DV .avi files, although I could be wrong. I've never heard of one though.

You can trim it on the timeline, then save the project with trimmed copies of the media files. That should do it for you. Then you can use the trimmed copy instead of the original.
