Help finding a battery powered drive for HVX in host mode.

Alright I've done a whole lot of searching here on this and I found plenty of old results and drives that are no longer available. I've looked at the mwave.com site for OTG drives with no good options found.

I found this and I think it would work but I can't seem to find a US retailer.

I realize that I would e better of buying a P2 store or more P2 cards but I just spent a lot of money on everything else and I can't afford it right now. I only have one 8 gig P2 card and I'm going to be doing a shoot in Miami next month and I won't be able to carry around my powerbook or plug in one of my firewire drives. Any help finding a useable enclosure or drive would be greatly appreciated.

Maybe this?

Ram, this is very interesting!! and would like to know if you have actually tried this enclosure with your HVX-200 in 1394HOST mode?.... and was it consistently successful?

I may be assuming incorrectly that all these enclosures are pretty unintellegent and are just life support system incl., power for the DDM itself....

because I have several LACIE PORSCHE 160 and 250GB FW400 drives I have successfully powerered from an external 5V battery source a LAPTOP BATTERY BACKUP unit using the 5V USB. It spins up fine but.

ALAS, the HVX-200 wont recognise it either of the LaCIE Porsche drives) in IEE1394HOST mode, so I can't even format it from the panny. (Formats ok from the MAcPRo for FAT32 but HVX still wont recognise it on the FW cable)

I have sucessfully tried a larger FW400 external disk drive using a 9Volt supply from the same battery above and it works fine...however the LeCIE's are quite small and portable and prefer these.

I assumed the LACIE's had some issue from the 5V USB BATTERY POWER SOURCE
would u post your results with this enclosure?

If it works I will order one myself.

RAm, there's also the Nexto CF Ultra ND2525 that's made in Korea.

Barry Green posted some comments on COW and stated the battery life is superior than the AMS25K.

THE Nexto CF Ultra ALSO SEEMS TO HAVE AN EXTRA external 4400Mha battery as well... so looks like a goer. 1394A so I exoect this will work with the HVX-200 for P2downloads.

It seems more expensive but I guess with a 250GB disk with 15x16GB P2 partitions (less with FAT32 file system overhead) , should be ok.

That drive looks great, but for that price i could add $125 to the price and buy another P2 card. With the other solution I would onlu spend about $100 since I already have a hard drive for it. I also want to go with something that I know for sure will work, if I can offload 4 or 5 8GB cards on one card I'll be happy.

Hi RAM, I just purchased a new NEXTO ULTRA ND2525 for my HVX-200 P2 workflow.

It's great!.

I beleive it will suit your requirements as a SELF POWERED FW DISK STORAGE for P2 offload in the field.

I have documented this in http://www.dvxuser.com/V6/showthread.php?t=114853

It was frustrating finding something but this look svery good and robust and quite cost effective.
