Anyone got any ideas on how I can get a Taxi for my short film shoot? or a yellow car that looks like a taxi, or an old taxi car that was sold. I tried craigslist, and movie car rentals, but thats all up in the $250 a day rate.

Anyone got any other ideas?

Edit a logo with after effects, and paint the car yellow maybe? OR you rotoscope the car and paint it yellow in AE ;)

How many shots are exterior and how many are interior? If mainly interior,
you could use a stock shot of a cab for the exterior and use any car for interior. If you need to show your subject getting in a cab - maybe call one?

You might have ownership issues if you don't inform the cab company first, right? How important is the detail needed for the cab? For about $100, you can have magnetic signs made, and invent your own cab with any plain jane white or yellow car. Even a Taurus wagon will do. On ebay, there are tons of meters for sale, many under $100. Now you will have all you need to make your own cab any time you need one. If nothing else, you can make extra money for your next camera, your next movie, your next 12 pack... ;)

lol..Me doing that in Post is close to impossible.

Yeah, I thought about that as well, only thing is, I've got two characters, and one of them is driving the taxi, and is a big part of the movie.

Yeah, I could do this as well. I've gotta think about it, most shots are interior, with acouple being exterior. 90% of it takes place inside the taxi, I didn't even think about the meter to be honest, didn't think I really NEEDED one, but for it to be real, I do.

Anymore ideas?

You guys are great.

you could always try and approach a cab company and ask if they'll sponsor your film, by lending you a cab for half a day. A big thankyou in your credits would be all you need then.

It's worth a shot.

CGI...

How specific does the cab have to be?

Sometimes you see cabs with dividers bewteen front and back in films, but what cities really have those? IF you did want that look, then you could rig a piece of lucite with some holes drilled in it behind the seats.

For a meter, couldn't you just doctor a clock radio type thing with a big red digital readout for close up shots? You could rig it to the dash for shots that don't feature it, and it would help make any car look more like a cab inside.

You want to have things in the shot that fool the watcher into thinking they are seeing the real thing without drawing too much attention.

Very Very nice. Yes, that clock idea is great.

Here is what I did...

I located someone on craigslist who is selling a Ford Victoria (Police/Taxi Cars). With my luck, its yellow, and the guy really needs money. I'm most likely gonna get it for about $200 bucks, for 3 nights. I'm gonna buy some stickers on Ebay, and a taxi light for the top of the car for $20 bucks. Buy a clock, and stick it up in the front, now the divider is not needed since down here I've never seen a taxi with a divider.

And, close ups of the meter will be taken in a real taxi cab, how? well, easy, simply order a taxi, send your DP somewhere with his camera in his hand to shoot the meter as he drives.

Problem solved..Thanks guys.
