Best Config for Vegas Editing System?

The best preview screen must be a real 1080p, not these cheap LCD 1080i TVs. In fact, for the same amount of money you bought the 1080i TV you could have gotten a real 26" 1080p monitor (1920x1200) that is able to do 1:1 zoom so you can immediately see any artifacts on screen.

As for the PC itself, the faster the better. I would go at 3 GBs of RAM though. Even if 32bit Windows only give access to Vegas to 2 GBs of RAM, the rest 1 GB can be used by the kernel, so the 2 GBs truly belongs to Vegas at that point.

Also, have two SATA drives. The drive C does the temp work and the other drive holds the data. It's faster that way.

Right now I am only using 1 monitor for my PC and have one DVI output to each monitor from the video card and I'm just using the 32" LCD TV as a second monitor for preview. I can do a Dual monitor config for my PC, but then I would have to use the firewire output from my deck/camera to preview out to my 32" preview monitor. Which didn't seem as good as quality.

I don't get how you have this set up. You have DVI out to both monitors, and are still using the 32" monitor, but not through FireWire?

How are your two monitors configured?

Oh, sorry; I misread and thought you had two 22" monitors.

You can still use a dual-monitor configuration for Vegas -- you'll just have to turn the preview on and off when you want to use the tools which are on the second monitor.

If you intend anything for standard TV, though (DVD, etc.), you probably should preview on a standard TV, too, at least to check before your final render.

You can do it with a second video card. You can do it the way you're doing it now, only with three monitors.

Like This.

WOW!!! I'm envious. That's a NICE set up you have there.

I use two CRT monitors on my 7800GSOC AGP card and run my 1080P secondary HDTV via my Quadro FX560 via a component box that was provided. I still have room for one more monitor if need. I also still use via firewire out to a AD/DA box to my Sony PVM for SD monitoring.

I heard this card will output a HD signal in real time (scrubbing or previewing). Last i heard it only works with up to vegas 7.
The SD version starts at around $300 (SDI output only)

Has anyone any knowledge on these?
(I'm saving up for mine)

I'm not sure what card you are talking about?

I currently have an Nvidia 8800GTS 640mb Dual DVI video card that runs about $450 dollars. I'm actually going to a blackmagic card soon.

do you only have one card? if so, how do you have it hooked up to two computer monitors and the lcd tv?
