16x9 Extreme Compact Fisheye Stills

Got it today from B&H. Grabs are from a DVX.

They didn't include the 72-82 step up ring, so I let them know and they said they would ship one out to me, no charge.

Here are a few grabs just in my workroom (horrible lighting, no cc, etc) just to show the before/after.

In the top right corner there is a noticeable vingette.. interesting that it's only on that corner....Later this week I think I'll be using this on a shoot and I'll have some production grabs then hopefully.

I was on the 16x9 website yesterday looking at their samples and noticed horrid CA even on their small stills. I'm sure there are situations where the conditions are suitable or the action is distracting enough that a casual viewer won't notice, but to me it was unacceptable.

Having said that, the Century Optics Extreme Fisheye also has significant CA, but the 16x9 appears worse.

***Update***

So that paticular model is not "made for the HVX" according to 16x9 inc.

I got the wrong ring from B&H, called 16x9 to see what the deal was and they told me what was up. I sent it back yesterday to get the right model. I'll post again when I have something to show... I'm hoping I have better results....

There is a review up on BH about the lens having some vingetting...

If thier sample clip shows no vingetting, and there is some when I shoot, they will definitley hear about it from me... that's false advertising, no?

On the 16x9 superfisheye that cost $700 (which i have) there is a tiny vignette on the upper left top corner. But it also depends on camera to camera, same as with the century superfisheye. most cameras will show the vignette, but i've heard and read how some cameras will not show it.

Here's a sample of the 16x9 superfisheye on a HVX200.

on the first FE clip i see the vig at the top left, but did you have steadshot on? it looked a bit like the vig was moving just a tiny bit.

there was a time when i had my dvx death on someone elses dvx and the vignetting was uneven, i tunred on steady shot and spun myself around in the direction to move the vig over and then turned steadyshot off while i was turning and it evened it up. so maybe you could try doing that with yours and that vig will get a bit farther out of the screen perhaps?

but that little amount of vig isn't that bad, i would prefer none, especially when dropping a good amount of money on a lens. you can sometime see a tiny bit of vig with some of ty evans stuff and he shoots with the xtreme fish.

Yes, I did the ultimate noob mistake, lolz. (never leave steadyshot on with a wideangle or fisheye lens)
I left steadyshot on that clip. That was just a daily clip, so I didn't reshoot.

its cool, but by watching it move i think you might be able to get most of it out of your shot using my camera shake method. i'm probably going to make a purchase on this lens next week. it loos pretty good from what i've seen on the net.

what is that?

again, this was just a quicky daily edit i put together

turn steady shot on, then kind of swing the camera(very carefully) in the direction that will make the vignetting move off the screen and as you are swinging turn off steady shot. not 100% sure it will work with the hvx but i used that method with a dvx onetime to somewhat get better alignment with a friends camera and century .3x

thanks, i will try that
