From SONY VEGAS --> FCP

Hey guys! Usually after I'm finished editing the clips on Vegas, I like to transfer the files to FCP for color correction (since my MAC is hooked up to a broadcast monitor)

I've noticed that FCP DOES handle .avi files but it degrades the quality a little during rendering.

How can I convert the highest quality DV AVI files to the highest quality .MOV files to edit in FCP?

Export as uncompressed Quicktime files.

Or, use the DV/DVCPRO codec.

Or, print back to tape and recapture with FCP.

Thanks David for the quick response; one question

I watched your 24P basics video and all the footage I've shot is 24PA which is on my vegas timeline. If I print back to Tape and recapture with FCP... will it still be 24P footage?

You also mentioned the DV CODEC.. I'm rendering the file as AVI with DV/DVCPRO codec but the quality isn't that good when rendering from FCP

Print it back to tape as 24p DV (inserting 2-3-3-2 pulldown) -- then capture with FCP as you would any other 24pA footage.

The DV/DVCPRO codec is an option under Quicktime rendering. Works just fine in FCP.

another quick question::

in terms of cliips.. I'm talking about around 40 - 50 clips (its a big feature)

instead of me loading every clip up in Vegas.. is there an easier way? (maybe a software) which can convert DV AVI clips to the highest quality MOV files for editing within FCP??

Not sure what you mean. Aren't you editing in Vegas first? Doesn't that mean you're exporting a full project?

In any case, you can batch render from Vegas (Tools>Scripting>Batch Render) and it will do all of the clips automatically, however you want to set them up.
