Here's my crack at a shock mount and zeppelin

The Fur

The Fur

I'm posting some pictures of the inside and outside of the hand sewn fur piece due to a request I received. Since I don't draw that well and didn't use a pattern it is a bit difficult to explain how I made it. Plus my memory isn't that great these days. So tell ya what I'm gonna do: I'll post pics of the fur inside out and then right side out so you can get an idea of where the seams are. As far as the bottom is concerned I stitched up one side of the fur piece so I could slide half of the zeppelin in and then on the other half of the bottom I used velcro as a closure

My fur was 3/8 yd x 60 inch. I was able to fold that in half and wind up with 2 pieces of 13" x 30" (which is probably 10" more than I needed but I was just trying to get a more workable piece of fur, that's why I cut it in half, so I could play around with it since I had no idea what the heck I was going to do). I used 1 of the 13" x 30" pieces to make the zep cover. So if by some reason you end up making a huge mistake you do have another piece of fur as a backup.

Hope this helps :-)

Please note: I only used the two outer metal mesh zeppelin pieces inside of the fur piece to give it shape, shock mount is not attached.

i've attempted it with the aluminum guard, and i feel sorry for the boom guy who has to hold it, its not very light. i may try getting plastic hardware cloth or shade cloth, thoughts?

Well if you think the gutter guard is too heavy then you could go with an idea I was initially toying with - fashioning the unit out of Plastic Lamp Guards. I'm pretty sure this is gonna be your lightest solution. I was considering taking 3 of these and using two for ends (removing the bases of course) and cutting the 3rd utilizing only the flat middle section. The reason I did not attempt this version was I could not find any locally and I did not want to wait for an internet order, plus I was trying to make a project that could be purchased at any home improvement store. Well that said, I have since seen Plastic Lamp Guards at Home Depot so by all means check into it and let me know if it works for you.

Cheers!

Wow, love this design. This is definately going to be my next project!! Have you tested your zep? If so, what are the results?

Oops i didnt realize how old this was until I posted!

Tthis is just awesome, I am planning on trying this myself very soon.

This looks very pro and reminds me of the k-tek zeppelin. The k-tek uses foam balls on either end of the zeppelin, do you see an advantage either way? Here a pic

Have you had any experience of the velcro making noise while you are using it?
