Okay guy I know that there are a few questions concerning Macbbok Pro and Sony Veags either using any of these three programs. If we can get people who have used these programs and list thier limitations. It would help many people visiting with questions pertaing to this to realize which prog is best for them.

I am test driving a friends Macbook Pro with Vmware Fusion running Win XP.

A few issues with this

1. I cant get Firewire support. I.E. windows wont see the firewire device and that means I cant use Vegas inside MacBook Pro to dump footage from a DV cam. Do you have this issue?

2. I called Fusion and they told me that they dont support DirectX 9 yet. Which means I cant get Vegas 7 or 8 to work. I did get Vegas 6 to work and man does it work great! But I was wondering if you have the same issue with Paraelle or Bootcamp. What version of Vegas do you have installed?

3. Im having a ***** of a time gettin the internet to work in Windows. Cant find any help anywhere.

Anyways any help would help, and any other thoughts would be great also.

I would never, ever, use virtualizers with *any* video editor that respects itself, let alone Vegas. It is just wrong to use Parallels or Vmware to run such applications which require so much stability, access to direct hardware and lots of RAM.

If you want to run Vegas on a Mac, you must use Bootcamp, and boot to XP *cleanly*. No OSX underneath. That's the right way to do things when trying to use a Mac with such kinds of apps (that also includes 3D Studio Max, most games etc etc.)

Really? So you don't think I should run Windows in OSX?! Then theres no reason for a Mac then!

I actually tried it out on my friends and my moms laptop and I was impressed at the performance and stability it actually ran Vegas and after effects much better than on my PC! And my PC is a monster.

I never said that you should not run Windows on OSX. I am saying you should not run DirectX-heavy programs under OSX. If you just want to run IE, or Winamp or whatever, sure, use a virtualizer. But if you want to run a heavy video editor, then you run Bootcamp. Clean Windows on a Mac. No OSX underneath.

Actually, in my unscientific testing, there is still a good reason to run a Mac with Windows under Bootcamp - performance. My render times reduced about 1/3 when I switched over to a MacBook with Bootcamp (I'm allowing for other things that may influence performance - the actual improvement was more than 50%).
