Imovie and Vegas

So I have a macbook with imovie, but I do my editing on my PC with Vegas 6.0. I thought I'd save tapes and record an interview straight onto my macbook, capturing with imovie (cause that's all I have), and then copy the files over to my PC and edit with Vegas. Maybe I should've guessed this, but it doesn't seem quite that simple. I recorded with my DVX100A in 24pa, and when I copied it over to my PC, it didn't play very well. It doesn't seem like imovie is able to handle 24pa. Should I give up and capture to tapes next time, or is there a solution to this?

iMovie does not support 24p at all, and when it saves down in .mov, it changes stuff in a way that they can't later be pulldown'ed correctly. I would suggest you re-read the tapes with Vegas and throw away the iMovie-captured footage.

I didn't record onto tape at all. I'm going to try exporting from imovie onto a tape in my camera and then capturing it onto my pc. We'll see how the footage looks.

You can try the Quicktimes recorded in iMovie on the Vegas timeline, but it's not likely you'll be able to remove the pulldown automatically, as you may have been able to had you captured live in a Windows/AVI application.

You may be able to remove the pulldown manually, but if you recorded in 24pA mode, the removal won't happen correctly -- some of the the wrong fields will be discarded and spliced for every four-frame (ten-field) group.

Your best bet will likely be to bring the QT files into Vegas and then re-export them as DV AVI files.
