Best movie of 2007 so far.....

My thoughts are to open Film Discussion for everyone.

Don't fret the current demographic. Open threads that contain well thought out critiques and examinations of said films, and I think the populus would enjoy it and even grow.

I may not get or have been introduced to much International Cinema but am always open for an education.

I'd rethink giving up. INstead, start a crusade.

I kind of liked 'Next'. I don't usually like Nicholas Cage, but it was pretty entertaining.... what did you guys think of it?

I would say 3:10 tops the list, but I have a distinct feeling that they knew they were going to get overshadowed by No Country for Old Men and The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford, so we'll see.

300 was good. Not great, but good. To say it's based on a historical event is silly; it's based off of a comic, and done so in the same "translation over adaptation" way that Sin City was done.

Michael Clayton looks like, well, a George Clooney movie. I'm not sure I'm up for that.

The Kingdom was great. If for anything it's a great lesson in sidestepping controversy to maximize audience size. Acting was great, the story was basic but never felt like it was on rails, and there was a feeling of vulnerability over the characters' safety that I hadn't seen in a while.

I thought Next was ok, but not one of his better films. I will admit, I didn't see the ending coming.
It was fun... I'm a film student like many of you are.. I like to analyze films just like everyone else, but sometimes it's nice to just sit down and watch something that takes you on an adventure.... yeah I didn't see the ending coming either.

Stardust

Stardust

I agree that the Simpsons movie was the movie of the year...so far!
If any of you get the chance to see Stardust, then see it cause i can guarante you will be amazed! Trust me on this, DeNiro is gold in it!

Most of the "good" movies don't make it over here. They're more a Transformers and Die Hard market (although Die Hard 4 was fun).

Best so far:
Sunshine (seen it 12 times on DVD)
300 (perfection)

I just read an article that blamed Michael Clayton's weak opening on George Clooney. I always sort of liked him, even in the rubber nippled disaster that was Batman. Since I don't know jack about the movie itself, I have to say it is marketing's fault.

Bourne Ultimatum for me, absolutely loved it.

Transformers 2nd to Bourne only because I love the entire Bourne Trilogy over this movie :P I did say back in the Transformers thread though that I've never in my lifetime had more fun at the movies than watching THIS movie. It was a friggin blast.

Okay I made my choice. The best movie i've seen this year is 'The Ultimate Gift'. I like movies that have a purpose.. 'Freedom Writers' was pretty good too.

'30 Days of Night' sucked, don't waste your money on that one.

Studios usually save the best (or supposedly best) films for the end of the year so they're fresh in Academy voters' minds, so we may well have not yet seen it yet...

Great films
Zodiac
Grind House
The Lookout
Superbad

Fun Films
Transformers
Disturbia
300
30 days of night

Bad films or dissappointments
Halloween
spiderman 3
shoot em up

i found it to be a good movie. i like the pace. I would have took it further though.

'30 Days of Night' sucked.
It was a Vampire movie! The Horror in it wasn't so bad but the vampires in it spoke a funny language with subtitles that made it laughable, and the vamires themselves looked and acted like GQ models posing it up at every frame, Not menacing unless you walk the catwalk! Sad to say the most menacing person or thing in the film was Josh Hartnett. Who also did the most damage.
I was looking forward to seeing this one and was Largely dissapointed.
