i'm thinking of getting the Lacie Biggest S2S 2.5TB. But I'v been reading mix reviews about Lacie in general. Anyone with experience with this model? The other one I'm interested is the G-tech G-speed. But there is no tech support for G-tech in my country.
Look at the Caldigit options....www.caldigit.com. VERY rock solid drives.
I haven't had experience with that particular LaCie, but I have had bad experiences with LaCies in the past. Both Bigger D2 drives died on me within 9 months. And tghe G-Speed is Fibre Channel, VERY expensive and really only something I recommend if you are networking edit stations. Look at the CalDigit and Dulce Systems eSATA adn External PCIe offerings. Fast and far cheaper.
I don't know what the latest is on the Lacie's but the 1T drives were not good. We used 5 and two had to be returned, the other three are very problematic. If they were mine I would have sent them all back. Lacie drives were banned from some/ all of the La studios because of there unreliability. THe problem seems to be with the firewire bridge board so it's poss that this has been fixed. I have used smaller Lacie drives with no problems, but I wouldn't get a larger one unless you have very good backup and a way to get a refund if things haven't gotten fixed. Also the 1T drives were LOUD.
Anyone of u has experience with the 3ware Sidecar. My friend had one for a year & its running well. More expensive than the lacie & G-tech but cheaper than Dulce or Caldigit.
