Affordable licensing of commercial music

I just came across this and thought it would be of interest to some. If you do wedding videos or corporate events, or actually any "event" videography AND your in the US or Canada this probably applies to you. These folks have a very affordable fee for a lot of commercial songs (all of EMI and supposedly soon most of the US labels).

I don't have anything to do with them and I don't do event video but I know this is a big issue for those that do.

well that looks pretty promising! Thanks for posting the link. I'll have to look into the specifics of the license and see just what it covers.

That might just be one way to cut down on piracy. Of course, media folks like us have only been saying that for how long?

I was thinking the same thing - it would be great to have someone that could pre-clear music for limited exhibition (and for a reasonable price). :-)

Until then, shockwave-sound.com it is.

Hi Noiz,

Yeah, Zoom has been around about a year now but unfortunately wasn't able to deliver. It's too bad they weren't able to sign up any labels/studios of significance. When you look through or listen to their music, unfortunately you won't find anything recognizable. That's a shame - long ago we had expectations (based on Zoom's promises) that the good stuff would have been available in early 2007. Looking into their offerings, you'll be teased with songs listed as "Publishing Cleared" which sounds peachy but when you check for songs that are "Ready To License" their offerings fizzle. Not to say that their PR hasn't been promising:

If anyone is willing to write them and are able to get a noteworthy response, please share the good news with us here. Many moons ago, lot of us WEVA members either never got a response or received open-ended generic responses.

Sorry - I certainly don't want to rain on anyone's parade. We were so hopeful Zoom would be a serious business entity. Maybe someday - thank goodness we're not employed in their business development/contracts group!

Warm Regards, Michael
