A Properly working DOF Adapter... Less than 1 stop light loss

More thanks...

More thanks...

Cardmaverick,

I thought there may be some Ch/A built into the DVX lens, but not as much as I found after your post. Thanks. Testing the Adapter with a single ccd chip on a Nikon and Canon Digital still... I found no detectable Abberation. I'm working to find the DVX's Optimal range. The great news again is that I'm trying to make it a camera specific device, affording me the opportunity to balance it for the dvx/HVX specifically. This will help. Especially if I send you a unit to test against others. Thanks for the heads up. I'm anxious to test the unit again with Steves HVX with all proper glass in place. I'm curious about your findings on built in Chromatic Abberation concerning the HVX also?

Cory

Cory,

I don't have any HVX CA info yet...

I have noticed that the channels shift around and even resize depending on your focal length.

There *could* be a sweet spot where lateral CA appears the least, but I haven't looked into finding that yet. I'm currently just making a bunch of templates for my own stock lens shooting purposes.

I'm using quite a few tools to morph the problem channels, which seem to be red and blue, though I haven't officially tested that yet, I've just been assuming green is the constant and leaving that channel as the channel I conform the others to.

When do you think you'll have a loaner unit ready? We could probably do some kind of escrow thing.

I probably won't start officially testing for a little while, as I have a few projects I'm working on, and I'm looking into printing a larger res chart locally.

Thanks,

Thanks,

Chris and Cory,
Chris's mention of the Blue/Red channels rings a bell and partly my thinking on the compression question to Chris earlier, was I remember reading some tests done previously (I'm sorry I don't recall where at the moment) with the Panny 1/3 chips as having slight bleed or color smear with those channels. What I don't remember is if this is limited to Panny or is indicative of Sony, Canon and other image sensors or if this is because of Panny's color shifting algorithm or combination of the two? Barry, Jason, Dan? Some of you other engineering minded folks please chime in... To try and save Chris a bunch of diagnostic troubleshooting time I was wondering if his CA was indeed coming from the lens or lenses or was coming from the image sensors themselves or possibly certain lenses and f stops were enhancing the effect in conjunction with this inherent characteristic of the 1/3 ccd's?
Steve

Hey Guys,

Just an update, I put out a request on the Reel Stream board for res charts at specific focal lengths in order to try and see if the DVX lenses exhibit consistent lateral CA characteristics... As soon as I get some samples in, I'll let you know what the results show.

Thanks,

Update from cory...

Update from cory...

After much more testing, we have decided to have our own achromat produced for this unit. Many thanks to cardmaverick for pointing out the built in chromatic aberration issues with the DVX line. We have worked to correct the issue with our own Doublet lens specifically for the DVX 'a' and 'b' as each model exhibits different factors. We are also working on a Doublet for the HVX unit as well.

The Bad news. It will be January before we have any full precision units ready. These will be the Pro units geared for people like Tim Naylor and the guy from QVC.

The Good news, we are producing the entry level unit without the special achromat and will have 5 units ready in just over a week and we will be advertising here on DVX user. These will be affordable and I will announce a price very soon. We will make as many of these as we can untill January.

Thanks all..... Cory

Hey Cory,
Good luck with that. I just signed up to advertise here and Jason has been very helpful.
As a fellow entrepreneur, I know what it takes to get these products out. Great work and may everyone buy your adapter. :)

Luis,

Wow, Some really great stuff you've got there... Had no idea! I've seen some under camera Firestore mount boxes and such but how cool that someone right here makes a rail mount set up. And an HD monitor... The Carrion, what a great name. Your products look high-end. Ummm, you must be really smart! Hope all goes good for you as well. Thanks again for the great advice on offering mounts for Nikon and such. It's working out awesome and optimizing for both standard and medium format with the same unit has been a pleasant task... More soon.

Hi Cory,

Nice looking adapter housing you have there.

The confusing post by Dan I understood immediately, I think, as I was thinking along the same lines (I think).

The issue I have with medium format lenses, where the camera is zoomed in to a smaller frame than is seen by a medium format camera is this: the angle of view associated with that lens is made narrower, which effectively lengthens the focal length of a given lens, so that if you want a very wide angle lens, you need to obtain a lens that is even wider (ie often not available at any price). The advantages are obvious, however, but I thought it was worth considering. Personaly I feel that 35mm lenses make a lot more sense overall for an adapter as they are in many ways overkill anyway. If there were serious vignetting/ light loss/ barrel distortion/ CA issues with the best available adapters, then MF would be a reasonable response, but I don't think there are!

Sweet looking unit though. Good luck to you!

Any news? Or did I miss something?

I have to buy an adapter soon and I think I will give yours a try if I can afford it.

Is it aviable? Pricing?

Thanks, Frank

New rails...

New rails...

Thanks Frank! I do have the units assembled and will be including my new rail system with these first 6 units. It's a simple 3 teir rod support with 18 inch aluminum 15mm (60mm offset) rails and the proper mounting offset for the DVX. My goal was to make a properly working precision adapter. My goal now is to make it available to many so yes it will be affordable and I will be able to release the price in just a few days. The rod supports are almost finished. Thanks for the interest and I'm working on this as fast as I can.

Cory

Hey Cory,

I thought I replied to you on this thread, but sometimes my connection fails It must have been what happened.

Thanks for the compliments.

Yes, the monitor is getting alot of attention. I'm hoping I can really provide a great product at a great price. I've even talked to some retailers about carrying it and they were interested. It would mean bumping up the price around $300 or more. (their cut) But we'll see what I decide to do.

Your adapter looks great, keep up the good work.

As for your railmounts, they look pretty nice also. 3 tiers are probably over kill, but I like Over rather than Under. Just keep in mind that different cameras have different heights so you might want to have something to adjust for that.
(also adjusting from side to side might be a good idea.)

And if you ever want to have a flip function, the adjusting up and down might come in handy.

Great work, and good luck. :)

No problem Cory!

Just out of curiosity, do you have transmission issues with your ground glass? Many GG apparently don't pass light threw them in a linear fashion, so when you stop the still lens down one stop, the view BEHIND the screen from the cameras point of view isn't a full stop. Many people are reporting this about some of the Brevis screens.

Can yours pass light linearly? That would be a killer feature...

Thanks,

Not to hijack Cory's thread, Chris you're doing and posting some interesting research on the shifting/abberation issue but Luis, yeah your long running efforts and results on the monitor are awesome. What is the brand of circuit board controller and monitor you're using? Did I miss that in your thread or is that your "trade secret"? Your name/concept on the other hand... Cory in the spirit of ode to Edgar Allen Poe gothic whatever maybe something like "stinking rotten twisted sik35" for your adapter? Now I think I need both of these products. I'd have to black out the name on the monitor though. ;-) Not sure if I can afford both at once. Why don't you guys get together and offer a two product package deal? They seem like they could compliment each other really nicely.

Havent been here in a while.

Havent been here in a while.

Thanks to a suggestion from Huy Vu I found this thread again. WHat is the latest news on this adapter. I was looking for camera rails on ebay and found a pic of the adapter but that is all. I was hoping to get more details here but no luck. I didnt try to contact them yet but I guess I will. IG

Cory promised me an adapter loooong time ago.
We emailed forth and back several months but I never got it.
I think he had some technical problems with it.

The Ebay picture looks like he build at least one.
But I think he´s not in to adapter building anymore.

Easom Adapter Update

Easom Adapter Update

Hello All. Here is the picture from ebay. The Adapter pictured is actually Franks. We are selling Carbon Fiber Rods, not the Adapter. Frank had faith in my ability to build the best adapter and he inspired me to build the HVX optimized unit. My last correspondence with Frank, he was headed out on vacation an wouldn't be reachable. A few weeks later I saw a post that he was anxiously awaiting the arrival of a Letus Extreme setup. He was extremely patient but he was coming up on a filming deadline and I think I was stressing him out on a ship date. He is correct about the technical difficulties. At the time, we did not do our own Powder coating and were at the mercy of out sourcing. We are now a certified bakery. I was also not comfortable soldering wires and securing them with hot glue so we manufactured our own circuit board for the unit. Franks unit is now my personal unit, built properly with a lot of time and love for the adapter industry. I did find that the HVX optimized unit is extremely backwards compatable with the DVX camera.

Let it be known that I have not taken any pre-orders or received any funds for the production of any adapters. I did want frank to have the best adapter and I worked diligently to provide him with one. He does some amazing production work and 3d animation and I will surely miss seeing our unit utilized in his works. Frank! Thank you for believing. Can't wait to see the production.

The future of the Easom Adapter. Much effort has been put into our facility to handle the complete production of the adapters and rod support systems including our own fabrication of 15mm Carbon Fiber Rods. Adapters will be sold as they are ready for shipment, not pre-ordered or back ordered. That means we will only accept funds for product when the product is ready for fast shipping. I will post here on this thread when we have adapter systems ready to ship.

Thanks for all the help and interest in the Easom Adapter.
