Hey guys. At the moment i run a huge webhosting company in Wales. This is a total of 8 servers which host about 800 accounts and about 3000websites.

Now i have just inherited 30 brand new servers. (some are extremely high spec, Quad 2.66GHZ 8GB ram ect)

10 servers will be going for my hosting business.

Now im putting 6 of these servers towards my new business Mediastock4u which its a bit like Istock but much bigger in what users can sell and way higher royalty payouts. (1 Quad, with 8gb ram as main server and 5 others as storage)

Now i am thinking of launching up another site, which will be part of the whole Mediastock4u service, but it would be a bit like Youtube. But not as, well how can i say, rubbish in terms of content and what is uploaded.

I suggest allowing users who love making films to show there content here. You would have to have a passion for making films. Not like just uploading any old stuff on youtube, but people who have tried making shorts and stuff. Also it would be much, much higher quality. Im not to sure which format the videos would be, but it would be probally flash at say about half the dimentsions of about 720pHD (512 x 360) and would be say about 150kb/sec download speed. So the person would have to be on a 2mbit internet connection.

Would any of you guys use this service?

Any feed back, or suggestions are extremely welcome. Oh and yes, this service would be completely free of charge.

Cheers,
Nathaniel

Flash is a tough one as........ well how many of us have the option to create a flash file - FCS users certainly dont. But when you say would anyone use the service, of course but it would really depend on how much $ youre talking - I personally wouldnt because I can afford webspace, my own hosting - but I see hundreds of people looking for a decent option pass this forum every year.

That is a good point. I would personally convert files myself. So they would be moderated. But i would accept any file FCP, or Compressor can cope with. But yer, i can see where you are coming from. At the moment, ive got something like 10TB of webspace at my disposall. now if i put thost 30 servers in that would be something like 200TB, but that is off the point.

With the flash thing, i no flash has the most support. But mov has better compression and quailty. But is not as stable if you are on windows.

Also the site would be more of a communittee. For example. Yes everyone is getting webspace cheaps these days. But not many people will not see there films if it is just on there site. If you upload it to a site i propose to build, Not only will it keep that professional look, but will be looked at possible thousands.

Thanks HorseFilms for the support. I guess if i built it, i would really lose anything. Start off with one server and take it from there.

Cheers,
Nathaniel

Who can't afford web hosting these days. It's like $5 a month. Most people can find that in the couch. I know you have to pay up front, but most companies have so much space an BW that you can find someone who will let you share space......so then it's like $15 for the domain and a thank you lunch for your buddy!

I'm off topic.

I know that I've been considering looking for a company that I can dedicate to streaming my video content. I convert my files to flash on my own and use an embedded player on my page.

If you host the content, would you allow people to use their own flash player, or embed yours in their page, and link the content to their site......vs. having to go to visit your site to view? This might be a value add to a lot of people who's hosting companies don't always cut it.

Hey. for a start. All my servers are on a 100mbit connection. Now if i put all 30 servers in. So total of 38. I would in total have 3.8GBIT connection. Anyhow this is what i plan to do.

Is allow people to upload a high quailty version of there video. I then download it and convert it to say flash. They then in the control panel, get to select a player theme.

Im also thinking of, if they pay say $3/month or so, they will get to upload there own page theme (say a premium membership), with there own flash player, so all we do is just give that user a URL to the video for them to embed in the player.

If i was going to design this, i would allow Mediastock4u start of first and then slowely introduce this say 6months later on in BETA then 12months in full version. Mediastock4u should be in Beta by the begining of Novemeber.

But once again. A user would upload a video say in .mov format in there control panel. I would then download that file. Convert is and then reupload it into the database. I no its time consuming, but i dont think i have the no how to convert videos on Linux, and set it so the server does not get completely overloaded.

Cheers,
Nathaniel
