CRT monitor

Hey guys,

i want to buy a nice CRT monitor so i could have dual screen action going on when i edit, but mostly to get a better color replication than my lcd screen which is far from what we get on the television.

Could anyone please point me in the proper direction, or suggest a few models that are not too highly priced, lets keep it 200 and under. no larger than 19" and that would have enough features to set the image color wise, contrast wise, brightness wise, so i could somewhat calibrate it?

Thank you!

even using a crt computer monitor I would be leary to CC with it - get another LCD so you have more room to edit and use a SD broadcast monitor to CC by. Do they even make CRT's for computers anymore? Just havent seen one for sale lately. Havent looked for one either.

they are difficult to find, however a CRT gives a more accurate display of the color in the image as well as the latitude. Blow outs on lcds versus blowouts on a CRT are very different. A CRT is much less saturated and will display more or less how images would look on a normal television screen.

Now, i understand that many people now adays use LCD screens as televisions, however i would rather get a look that works well on a CRT, which will then look that much better on an LCD, than go overboard with good looks on a LCD, which played back on a CRT television, will be extremely saturated and levels not so great.

so unless you can get a SD broadcast monitor for around 200?

i really didn't expect to receive no help on this... didnt think it was a brainbuster.

maybe there are no 200 sd broadcast crt's any longer. Thats my impression! I think they are dinosaurs... extinct!

sigh, i fear my question is getting confused with something more specific. All i really want to get is a computer CRT monitor, that is sufficient for color grading and so on. Yes, i am aware it is not a production monitor so i wont get exact image, however it is a hell of a lot closer than my lcd. So i just need to find a decent crt monitor that i can someone calibrate ( color wise and luminosity )

I would do my color correcting on a broadcast monitor rather than a computer crt if I were you papa. you are in the montreal area and can loan you my 9" crt monitor if you need to color correct your film. you just have to let me know in advance because it is often on the road with me. it has a 16x9 switch and i will show you how to set it up to bars and how to use the blue gun etc.
Anyway you are welcome to pm me and try it before you go spend money on something that may not work for you.
Cheers

Thanks for the bryan, but it is not for any film in particular. I just wanted to add a crt to my editing setup to ease my CC'ing and grading job. Thanks again.

ez, that is really cool, and ideally, i would love to use something like that, but taking a look at the price, i don't think i could afford even a used one.

all good PaPa
the offer has no time limit so let me know if you ever need it.You might consider checking the video equipment brokers as they often have good deals on broadcast monitors especially with everyone converting to hd these days.

I have a dual screen setup with a Hercules prophet view LCD and a old Sony Trinitron... It bugs me that the colors are so different between the two, i would recommend another LCD, there are some cheapo monitors that as long as you had one dedicated to video and the other (cheapo) one as the time line and tools and whatnot. I would suggest looking on www.newegg.com and maybe even www.tigerdirect.com you can usually find good deals on lcd's , CRT's are bad for your health.

You can also get CRT's cheap on Craigslist. Of course being used you might have to actually view the color on it before you buy, but they are posted all the time for like $25-30.
