I just came across a young filmmakers' website called Fresh Films and found out that they're holding a contest for five $1,000 scholarships. Since an old fogie like me can't apply (you must be 14-19 years of age), I thought I'd pass the info along to the young lads out there.

Entries are due on October 12th at 12 noon central. There are five different categories, two of which are videos and three of which are essays. Since the contest ends in two days, you're best bet is probably the essays unless you have a video ready in hand.

Follow the link below. If you need any help with your essay, feel free to send me a PM. I have some good ideas for a couple of the categories. Good luck!

i'm 21 but I have the facial hair of a 14 year old...

seriously tho this looks like a great opportunity. I'd like to point out it says entries must be RECEIVED BY Oct 12 at noon, so you'd probably have to overnight your stuff today or tomorrow morning at the latest.

I really wish I heard about this earlier.

No online submissions means that it isn't worth it.

Thanks for posting anyhow.

Change of plans. I sent in an entry.

It's a 10 minute essay. 377 words. It is also my rough draft.

My fingers are crossed. Thanks for the link.

I did their filmmaking event in Atlanta, and I gotta say it's really great. I am entering into just about every category I can, and I've got my fingers crossed!

These people are really great though, and it's a great opportunity for teen filmmakers.

Yeah I did Fresh Films Atlanta this past summer. It was good, I even went own to do my own short film. I think its great what Fresh Films is doing, especially since I'm 19 and its not like I could apply again. To bad, I just didn't do the darn essay. I got caught up in college school work. Darn!

Anyone know if they've selected winners?

I haven't received a "you haven't won" e-mail yet so my hopes are almost up but not quite.
