A very simple PVC dolly (non-rideable)

Sorry, I don't have the DVX cam, still I think that the DVX will not be too heavy for this design:

Obviously, with simpler tripods this setup works for a certain leg length only, or you need to drill more mounting holes. For better tripods with bottom spreader this will work even better since the distance between legs does not change. You need to drill mounting holes right above the wheels or a bit outward to keep the frame straight when loaded with tripod and camera.

I chose 120 degrees between axles to simplify the design because I bolt the wheels directly to the PVC pipes, but frankly 90 degrees works better because the wheels hold the track better. For 90 degrees angle I would have had to use spacers between the wheels and the pipe.

About $15 dollars for pipe and tee connectors I think. The wheels are cheap, but the bearings are expensive. Ask your friends if they have skates they don't need.

Very cool solution for smaller tripods and cameras.
Have you though about a curved track solution?
Also, what about heavier setups? Maybe a better tripod to pvc connection?

Yes, I am thinking about curved track solution. I have an idea, but haven't tried it out yet.

In regards to better tripod to pvc connection, I thought about it. I saw that IndieDolly uses clamps, simple and effective. I am thinking about using clamps instead of drilling mounting holes. The only issue is that IndieDolly photo shows a tripod with legs that have spikes that can be angled in relation to the legs. This setup works great with clamps. My tripod's legs are just one straight line, so clamping them won't be that easy.

That's very similar to a dolly i made two years ago. It works, the only problem is that you cannot ride it. And in some cases that is a big point; controlling the camera and the dolly at the same time produce unwanted results.

This is where the Indie Dolly system comes into play.
It's very cool in that they have a track option that is freeformed.
and you can sit on it.
