I know. I know. I'm an evil person because I cannot fork out over $1K for a true HD external monitor for my HVX.

But has anyone used this Hoodman Mirror thing to frame with?

Yes i realize it's not great for focus. I just want to play with my nifty new SGPRO due to arrive in a couple of weeks. It would be great to not fry my lizard-like brain trying to mentally upright the image. :zombie_smiley:

If only I had "only" $800 for a marshall. But I don't. :violin:

This isn't ideal, but then what IS in indie run and gun filmmaking?

All this to say, thanks in advance for any first-hand feedback.... :engel017:

I know this is off topic a bit but where can you find a Marshall for $800? I've been looking for one and what I've seen is more like 1300-1500.

I'm actually keen on building my own with foam core and velcro...but having no luck finding a mirror. (go figure)

would love to hear if this even comes close to doing the trick or if it's worth effort. So far, Target, Wal-Mart and Walgreens' have been a bust...

Thats a pretty horrible product. They don't mention that it only flips it vertically and that it will still be horizontally reversed making it difficult to follow any movement. They're also using a standard mirror which is creating the ghosting you can even see in their product shot. You really need to use a surface reflective mirror to eliminate this.

I tried something similar when I went from my regular DVX to a rented HVX for a music video (no magnet flip...). I gave up the mirror after a few minutes and ended up hand holding and looking at the monitor upside down. It just ended up being easier that way...

no worries. i didn't take it that way Ram S.O.S. are you using an adapter? if so, how are you monitoring now?

I'm not using an adapter yet but I'm finally in the market for one and getting a good monitor for focusing seem to be essential. I'll be purchasing a letus Extreme in about 3 weeks.

>so, j. -
>1. what do you use to monitor

The rig is mine (ed35 style), as for the monitor I had planned on using the mirror but ditched the idea and just used the camera monitor instead... It actually felt like operating an ArriSR the way I was hunched over and looking down into the monitor! (not recomended)
