Yes

Yes

Yes Wes, It is....

Thanks for pointing that out and giving me a chance to reiterate. One post back I had mentioned I was having to capture after dumping the footage to a trv320 Sony (handycam) via s-vhs YC analogily I think. I'm thinking I won't post anything more till I get my Firewire port fixed or some footage direct to a p2 card on an HVX. The grainyness has nothing to do with the adapter and everything to do with my lack of knowledge when It comes to capturing ...Gamma things...and post outputting n stuff. I wish I could take this 50 inch Plasma and shove it right through the screen so everyone could see it direct from the camera. I'll be collecting some real pixels before I post again. Oh...and in case you look closer and notice the Chrom, Chrom, .. I'm stuttering.. Chromatic Aberration, there was a slight mishap with the achromat doublet and I had to slip the green macro back in... So much for being anxious. I will post soon with non grainy pics and vid. It is grainy and thanks for taking time to comment.

Cory

Hey it looks like the grain is uniform across the stills. I dont think its the adapter he using at all. Look at the black shirt on the girl in the pics, the grain is even and kinda striped. The stills look good enough but the issue looks like software or the transfer like the guy says

There are a few questions in this thread that have gone unanswered:

1. Flip unit or non-flip?
2. What's the red on your achromat?
3. What's the lens on the front of your unit? It's got your name on it, no?

This looks interesting. Footage captured and processes will be much appreciated; namely HVX footage. =P

Why bother with the S-video transferring thing? DV=DV no matter if it's recorded with a DVX100 or Sony consumer cam...

Shouldn't you be able to capture the DVX tape directly from the Sony?

Jacob

By the design, it's a non-flip unit.

Yes, capture the tape directly from the Sony. All the info is collected on the tape, not what camera you use to capture on.

Spend just a bit of time reading up on the best way to capture, or go to the premiere section of these forums and start a new thread to ask your questions. We're all anxious to see how this performs, and that's why all the questions.

Take your time, and only post footy when you have it down to a "t" and know exactly how to post the best possible footage. Otherwise you'll just continue to get negative/confused/misleading reactions to the grabs.

Oh... and good luck. This looks promising... but it'll take more trial and error work, I believe.

Thanks for the positives and the support. I'll save my captures ussues for another thread.

About the flip. I had mentioned working on a seperate device to handle the image flipping. The reason I chose to put the ground glass housing above the lens center was to keep it within the confines of the front axis of the DVX. This way, the whole unit, could be mounted lens centric in a lightweight cradle and after exposure and framing, the camera and adapter could be flipped 180 degrees without reframing. Just like when 'MARKETMD' said, "Couldn't you just flip your cat?" So in essence, we're just flipping the cat. I'm also making a motorized programmable remote focus pull, so the follow focus issue won't come into play. Or it would be great for people who would enjoy a right handed manual folow focus. Light loss was my only reason for not developing a flip enhanced unit. I will though. Since that's what people want to see.

The red coating. Is a semi-translucent flat disk. My own Achromat protector cap. I just liked the color of it.

Lens compatability. I made this unit to work with my own lenses or any lens of the 645 medium format family. Contax/Pentax Mamiya and will make one to work with pl mount or arri primes. The good news is the Mamiya lenses run in the $60 to $280 range or if you can find new ones around $500 to $900 all on ebay.

Thanks for comments on the casing. I'm refining the case, but it will always have that tactical feel to it. It's a tough case and it should look tough. Easy to take apart and reassemble for people who'd like to see inside.

I'll be working fast to keep this up to date with the new footage. HVX200 also

My brother and family are getting on me about calling it "My amazing adapter". I'm really proud of it and I had just viewed more footage right before I posted that.
Thanks again, Cory

Very nice... A Large image circle and a very nice sweet spot comes from using large format lenses. I'm surprised this isn't done more often in the adapter arena!

Hey Cory,

Great work. Unfortunately, you are getting into an arena that seems to be oversaturated. I don't mean to sound discourageable, but its hard to compete with proven tested sources. Unless you provide something that those competitors don't.

I guess providing lens mount for medium format lenses qualifies. but if you want to stay marketable, I would also work on 35mm lenses. (nikon, canon, etc..) Lets say for example, someone had a current adapter with all their Nikon lenses. But they don't like the light loss of their adapter, or the weight, etc.. they could dump their adapter without having to dump the lenses that took them a while to find on e-bay. Just a thought.

As for ideas for other ideas, I would like to see an adapter that has adjustable back focus. So if there was a ring that could spin to get the ground glass closer or further to the camera and then be able to be locked (tight) would be nice. This way if they mount the adapter a little of, they don't have to re-mount the adapter. they can just adjust the GG.

I suggest figuring out a way to mount it to rails since some people will want to use a telephoto lens that is going to be way big. And its also good to attach a External onboard LCD too.
But in liue of rails, for those wanting to go hand held, maybe you can create a connection from the adapter to the handle of the camera or something. (just a thought)

Good luck in your endeavors.
Seems like you got most of it worked out. :)

Eh, I don't knpw IMHO I think people are addicted to these things. I'm seeing people jump on the Extreme who I know have M2's/Brevis'/and SGPro's. All four are definitely different and unique from each other. Form and function will win out. He's got a good looking product and if it produces great looking images, I think he'll find plenty of buyers.

You might be right Cinebuddy, but he has to think other cameras. by only providing mounts to the HVX and DVX he is limiting his market potential.

Also people are jumping on the extreme because of the light loss capabilities and the right side up image.

As Barry pointed out. Why go upside down if you can go right side up? and if it only looses 1/2 stop then its great.

I think its great that he is coming up with a device, and I encourage him to continue and try it. But, I also want to let him know that the device he is making has much competition.

The one feature he has that I haven't seen is mid format lenses. But if I'm not mistaken, mid format lenses are not all that fast. because they project an image that is larger than a 35mm negative. Hence the image is larger and it requires more light.

I wish him luck and hope he does amazing sales. :D

Oh really Dallas you agree with siniarch...well pooh on that!:) Hmm I did not pay attention to the fact it only had panny mounts. Well he's done this much research, and is in this thread so i'm sure he's listening to make sure he has the best all around product. Better to get the feedback now instead of when they've already started to roll out.

"mid format lenses are not all that fast. because they project an image that is larger than a 35mm negative. Hence the image is larger and it requires more light."

This part is point out my research. I used some old mid size lens to test (they from school). they are like F2.8. they looks much darker than those 135 lens. I don't know why is that. but the fact is I can not using them under 50W light.

But with my pentacon 50mm f1.8 len. it even close down to f2.8 . it still can get some picture out it. (Under 50W desk light) .

I think the flip isnt really that important. I can flip in production or hold my camera upside down. Id rather not loose even 1/4 stop of light. Just one added prism or lens or what have you multiplies the distortion of every other part of the lights path. Some things you cant eliminate but I think the flip part I can do without. IG

Yes, they do.. But not just because it is a new product or it looks nice, but because it is well done and have flip with little light-loss..

But.. for me it is no-go, because I like to use something else than just Nikon/Canon lenses; like Minolta and Pentax... and if I look back how long they are selling letus/letus FE and they didn't offer aditional mounts.. I am kind of discouraged to buy extreme or wait for mounts..

As I remembered, many others tried MF lenses, but instead of lenses not being so fast, it is problem that DOF is too shallow and it is hard to keep anything in focus..

It is good to do your homework, before give product to the market... ( that should be the best tip to the friend )..
