Brevis Adapter looks offcentre

I zoomed out with my HVX to show what I was noticing when I attached my adapter. But it looks like Brevis is offcentre. I uploaded a photo from final cut to show you what the imported clip looks like. The horizontal lines are easy to fix by doing a little adjustment so that it all lined up when it is screwed on. That is easy to fix. But it looks off axis? Look at the space to the right of the image . I can zoom in to crop it but i am losing part of the image.

What is going on?

Thanks Jason :-)

N, the imaging element is very precisely aligned to correspond to the 35mm lens imaging cone. The problem is the HVX is not shooting lens-centric. Rotate the adapter 180 degrees and you'll see it still has that offset to the right! Your HVX is actually looking fairly close compared to some that we've seen.

A 60 second procedure will allow you to set your rig up so it's perfect...page 2 of our quickstart guide.

Dennis should know. And that's not an excuse. I'm sure the adapter is just fine. I've tested my adapter on 3 different DVX100 models and each one is not only tilted about 3 to 7 degrees, but each one has a slightly different center. I think they're hand assembled...by trained monkeys. Actually, the ccd's and mounting are so small that a micro millimeter offset is magnified by, well a whole bunch. I would hate to be in charge if mounting ccd's.... Cory

I think there is adjustment slop built into the Brevis so it can be used on different cameras as various cameras have their own weird biases. That's my understanding anyway. Its very easy to adjust it.

Sounds like you mounted it without going through the normal basic adjustment in the first place. Its pretty clearly explained upfront.

The HVX shoots off-center. Try this test:

1) Attach only the Brevis achromat to the camera
2) Zoom out all the way
3) Observe that the circle is not centered

Yours is not so bad. Adjust the set-in screws to compensate as much as possible and zoom in as needed. I think you'll be fine.

Good luck.
