Hey, you're featured on Macworld.com! Sweet.

I'll have to wait until I actually get the FCS 2 upgrade before buying this, but I do have Noah's DVX/24p DVD and it's come in very handy.

The DVX100 disc is focused on the DVX100- but it would cover all of your SD 480 recording and gives plenty of hints on general 24p production and post that would be helpful on the HVX. The Color disc of course applies equally to both cameras.

Thanks Matt- you're in the first round of orders! You'll have it early next week.

Noah's Color Correction DVD

Noah's Color Correction DVD

Noah - Your team-up with colorist Stuart Ferreyra and the production of Digital Color Correction is another winner. This DVD has helped me to very quickly get up to speed on the most critical functions within Color so now I can get to work turning that knowledge into revenue.

I've got this a few weeks ago. I still have to go lesson by lesson but from what I see so far, it's a great supplement to getting started!

Good question- haven't seen theirs yet as I didn't know it was shipping. Andrew Balis is a great instructor and I'm sure he covers areas we don't and vice versa. I notice he focuses on a lot of examples which is great, we are more focused on learning the application from beginner to intermediate level. So it might well be an excellent companion disc. There's no such thing as too much help when it comes to learning Color.

Does the shopping list potion talk about hardware? I'm running a DVX100B, so just a DV workflow, but I am thinking of upgrading to an A1 at some point soon. I'm looking for as much info as possible re: output cards and display/monitors. I haven't been able to use Color effectively since I currently output via firewire on my DSR11 which doesn't output to my cheapo NTSC TV. Does your tutorial discuss Color's hardware requirements? I will need to get something to monitor on with component and HDMI and some sort of output card, but am shaky on hardware knowledge in this area.

Yes- we give quite a bit of hardware philosophy with some suggested examples.

So Noah, how much are you paying for these endorsements ;~)
Just kidding. The DVX100 disk was really useful and I just do sound. I've actually pointed a few people to it who were about to make the mistakes you warn against.
Cheers

Just got my Color DVD in the mail yesterday and I look forward to going through it.
I've had FCS2 for awhile now and I haven't done much with Color, aside from just opening it up and clicking around. I've been waiting for this tutorial to arrive so I can actually sink my teeth into the application.

After I get a good idea as to how everything works, thanks to Noah's lessons, I may order the Ripple DVD as well.

My review.

I was hoping for a slightly more advanced tutorial, but worked very well as an intro to the application. There was almost nothing on motion tracking for example, just a mention. Don't get me wrong it was informative and I learned a lot, just basic. For the person who's never even tried to figure out how to CC using Color this would be a terrific tutorial. It describes the overall workflow well, going room to room. What it doesn't do is show a lot techniques and tricks in action. It left me wanting to see an entire DVD in the secondary room and FX rooms, showing how to get different looks. I'd also have liked to seen a little more detailed decription with working examples of how to prepare a timeline for import into Color from FCP; what to do with clips with time changes, etc. what to do with interlaced. What it did was tell me I needed to prepare to send to color which is important. In a nutshell I think the DVD is an excellent primer for reading the manual and getting an idea of what can be done in Color.

Well done as far as production. The format was well laid out. Lots of chit chat between Noah and the colorist on CC general philosophy most of which I stayed awake for. I'll refer back to it. It clearly isn't meant to replace the manual and they say that right up front. Overall, as an introduction to Color I'd give it a 95%, with it's shortcomings being some lack of detail in a few areas. Well put together. I was sad when it ended and wanted more.
Now put out part two where we watch the colorist in action make some "happy trees" and angry trees. Yes, there is some of this as can be seen in the free sample with changing the skin color of the sailor, and in the movie they make both vibrant and dark feels on the clip. I want to see him recolor more scenes though, and do more than adjust the saturation. Show us many different situations indoors, outdoors, fast action, weddings, a section on keying, motion tracking in detail, more on prepping clips, more on monitoring hardware.

If nothing else this video" teaches people not to be afraid to use Color, gets them using it, makes them want to use it more. I give it a 4.5 of 5 which makes it worth the price of admission. (could use a DVXUSER code discount though of 10%, just an idea)

Maybe your comments will get Noah working on a Color Advanced DVD. ;)

Thinking about it- this has been a very popular disc so far- really really popular. We'd like to know if this is because ours was the first to market, or because folks want to know more about Color and the other ProApps in general. Whatever the reason, happen to have the support. Got lots of new discs in the works- thanks again for the feedback.

I think it's a combination of both. Color is unlike the other ProApps as far as the interface goes so for me the more information there is to get down and dirty the better.
