Buying something online and not getting the product

What can be done if anything if you buy something online and never receive the product however when you check your bank statement you see the company took the money out of your account? This happened to my Mom recently. The weird thing about this online company is that it looks like a "friendly" site like a would-be Mom and Pop type store (if it were a regular store). Their customer support number is a Pennsylvania number which stays on voicemail recorded message when you call. Their so called warehouse is in New Jersey! I looked the address up on Google maps and then turned on the Satelite view and it looks like its in a residential area and not some industrial park.

Would the BBBonline be someone to contact? She only spent $45 but its the principle of the matter.

If its a credit card cand you get them to dispute the charge can't you? Straight from a bank account, not sure what can be done.

It's still FRAUD. Contact the police, file a report against them. Paper trail leaves a trail. It would have been deposited into an account of some sort.

Also, keep trying - how long has it been? If it really is a Mom'nPop kinda business, then they may be off visiting the kids... lots of web sellers are kinda informal and sometimes slow, as opposed to fraudulent... New Jersey and Pennsylvania share some borders, it may not be that unreasonable.

I'm not defending them or saying you shouldn't pursue other approaches... but as a very informal internet vendor myself, and knowing of things like the DVX batteries which are sometimes delayed by Jared's production schedule, I'd also say that maybe it's something other than fraud...

Never, ever shop online except with a major credit card, and not a debit card. If your Mom authorized an EFT, the money is gone. You should still file a report and hope, but don't count your chickens.

A long time ago, I foolishly mailed a check after talking to the guy personally (he was advertising in a major national mag). Never saw my merchandise. I wasn't alone. He was scamming and was conficted in Federal Court and ordered to pay restitution. I never saw a penny.
