Ok Guys,

So after 9-12 months of trying to put this thing together and being ignored, stalled, and manhandled by the LCD industry, I'm finally proud to mention that I've pretty much finished my LCD. (really wished I would have been able to get this thing out sooner)

  • As of the new Bios Monitor can ZOOM 1:1 and beyond! (way beyond)
  • It can also PAN when zoomed
  • It can now FREEZE frame
  • And will have a Hard Switch to not Drain Battery Power.
The good thing about this is the image. Its really superb. The next best thing is the Angle of viewing. I really haven't seen anything with that much angle of view. Which is good for when more than one person are relying on the LCD.

Here are the first pictures. Please comment and ask questions if you would like.
Note the RGB connectors on top will be BNC and not RCA as those shown. I will fix this. I also need to add stickers to label things or possible do silk screened white letters.

Thank you.

Luis Sinibaldi

Congrats on the beautiful setup - this thing looks very impressive! Can't wait to hear more about it...I know you've been at this for a long time. Have you had any real-world production experiences with it yet?

Fantastic job!

Are you considering putting these together for sale...or was this just a personal one off?
I know I'd be interested, and I'm sure I"m not the only one.

Thanks guys.

YES I'M SELLING THEM (that is of course if there are enough people interested)

Well, I'll have an introductory price at first and see how that goes. the price might go up afterwards.

the introductory price for the Component RGB model will be around around $1250. (I just have to figure out lables and commission by paypal)

The introductory price for the Component and (1) HD-SDI model will be around $1550 and probably $1675 for (2) HD-SDI.

Lead time would be (2) weeks from the time that the order is placed to shipping for the first batch. (give or take a day)

If anyone in the LA area is interested in coming over to see the demo unit, please let me know and we can arrange something. Otherwise, I will bring my offering to the next HVX meeting in LA which I'm talking to user "DC" to try to expedite.

Thanks again for your interest.

Sincerely,

Luis Sinibaldi

Bravo!

Bravo!

Hi Luis,

Congratulations on a great looking setup! I am not surprised at how long it's taken you. That's just the way it is with that kind of development. It looks as though it was worth it. What's ypur impression of the scaling from 1080i down to the monitor resolution? -Sharpness for focus, moire, jagged lines?

I am interested in the component version. I don't see a weight spec, though. How heavy is it?
One suggestion: please drill a couple of holes with standard sized thread near the terminals. For example on the back or side plate(s) of the unit, if the material is strong enough. The purpose for me would be to be able to mount some reinforcement plate that would allow me to strap the wires that go out of the top onto a rigid metal rod/bar/plate or something, for protection of the wires and terminals.
 Soren

Hi Soren,

I think the scaler on the board is phenomenal. The components I've chosen are probably the most expensive ones out there that a company can purchase. (without Developing specialized components)

I'll have to check all these things as I conduct my tests. But so far Shapness seems amazing, haven't notice moire & jaggedness. I'll keep conducting test.

As for the hole on the side, I'll look into it. But do note that the BNC connectors for the HD-Component (RGB) are not attached to the board. they are mounted to the case and have a cable that is attached to the board. So you cannot break the Controller by damaging that BNC. The BNC for the HD-SDI on the other hand are attached to an add-on board, so those could damage the add-on board, but not the main board.

I also had a question for you guys. This controller has separate RGB connectors for HD and for SD. I decided not to include the SD connectors because I felt that it was not crucial to use RGB for Standard Definition. And since the board requires you to plug the SD into a different set of connectors, why not just switch the cable to an S-Video Cable? (I can still switch this to have both 3 connectors BNC for High Definition and 3 connectors BNC for Standard Definition. Is this important to you guys, or do you agree to just switch to S-Video when doing SD since its only a 1 wire cable?)

As for the weight its 3.2 lb (the panasonic BT-LH900A BT is 4.4 lbs) with the (1) HD-SDI option. Without it it should be closer to 3lb and with the (2)HD-SDI option closer to 3.4lb. I'll update the first post.

And the size of the box is : 8.5" wide x 6.625" tall x 2.5" deep (keep in mind the 8.4" panasonic is 8.56" x 6.94" x 2.44" so very close in size)

Also anyone in LA with a camera that outputs HD-SDI? I don't have one, and I'd like to test it with it. (Also note that there are no pass throughs on the Analog Inputs, or the DVI or VGA inputs. The HD-SDI do have pass throughs though. :) )

And also note that you could use this monitor to plug in your computer through DVI or VGA. I don't believe most other monitor have that?

Luis, this stuff is amazing.

A couple of questions and apologies if they have been answered.

1. Is that full res 1920x1080 on the screen? Or does the screen have a lower res but it scales the signal down really well? I ask as I am about to buy a Marshall and this could be what I go with instead. I know the Marshall is 800x400 and it scales down the HD image but you can still focus quite well on it.

2. Battery power, I see you have something attached to the front of the camera in the supports you posted a little while ago. Is that the battery and if so what is it and how much are they? I only have a crappy Varizoom SD monitor at moment and it has its own little battery as part of a mount.

3. HD component. Thats exactly what I have on the HVX and the HD component will be standard on all 3 monitor models - is that correct? And these are the BNCs you are asking about?

4. Lastly, how long do these take to make and also will you ship to the united kingdom?

Absolutely brilliant work Luis, I look forward to the answers and for now I'll put my Marshall plans on hold.

Thanks

Richard

Look1st, I'm still debating this.

On the one hand, I'm building each unit, so I know its solid. the case is aluminum and its build like a tank. All the boards for the exception of the HD-SDI module are mounted on almost every whole the Mnf. provided. (the mnf. usually provides more than what is needed so people can choose. I'm using as many holes as I can)

On the other hand, I'm a small operation. So warranty can eat my profits quickly. I'll have to check with the mnf. and see what kind of warranty they give me. If they cover everything for 1yr then I wouldn't mind spending whatever time it took to take it apart and replace it.

Let me find out all the factors, and I'll get back to you on this.

Majormorgan,

1. No, the screen is physically 1024x768, the same resolution as the $4890 Panasonic BT-LH900p monitor. (probably the same screen) http://catalog2.panasonic.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ModelDetail?storeId=11201&catalogId=13051&itemId=68537&surfModel=BT-LH900A

2. As far as battery power, I'm using the Tekkeon MP3400. I really like that battery because you can use it for almost anything (even your HVX in a pinch) and for $116 it will power my FS-100 for 5hrs and this monitor at least for 2.5hrs. will have to test exact time. (I hadn't fully charged it when I tried). I will use one for my LCD and another one for my FireStore for Ever. I will also be providing an Panasonic, Sony, and Other mounts as per people's request, but It will cost. The Panasonic mount from Nebtek is $135. and I would have to install it on top of that. And first I have to buy one to make sure it works. So I'll get back to you guys on that one. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16855997152&ATT=55-997-152&CMP=OTC-pr1c3grabb3r&cm_mmc=OTC-pr1c3grabb3r-_-MP3+/+MP4+Player+Accessories-_-TEKKEON-_-55997152
I will probably install the panasonic mount on my test one as a back up but I think I will mostly use the tekkeon. if I didn't have to buy the panasonic one to test it, I probably wouldn't even consider it. but since I'll have it, then why not. I was told from a fellow dvxuser who bought my FireWire Saver that he wasn't happy with his Panasonic battery to Marshall monitor setup because the panasonic battery is 7.4volts and the monitor requires I think 12v. so the image doesn't get as bright as when you plug it into the wall. I know he talked to Nebtek about it and I'm not sure if they have done something about it. I do know from experience that using the panasonic batteries on the Marshall, they go like hot cakes. I think they lask approx. only 1 hr if that. don't quote me on this I haven't tested it.

3. The HD Component will be 3 BNC connectors and yes they will be in every model. The issue that I was asking is that the card takes different inputs for RGB Component for HD and SD. Meaning there would be six BNC connectors. 3 for HD and 3 for SD. and if you switched your camera from HD to SD you have to unplug the 3 connectors and plug them back in to the SD connectors. I think this is clumsy and since its SD, I think you can just do with s-video rather than RGB component. If people rather have the six connectors, I can also provide that but I will have to update the price accordingly and they would have to come out of the right side of the box because of space limitations.

4. I can have them in about 2 weeks. Provided I haven't been lied to by the mnf. and yes I will be shipping internationally. (shipping will be more and I will find out about taxes and such)

Also guys, please note that I only mounted the tekkeon batteries in front of the camera in order to avoid moving my rails. Most likely, I would always mount the tekkeon batteries behind the camera. (it will definitely help balance the rig. good when shoulder mounted also)

Luis,

That all sounds fantastic. The tekkeon sounds like a fantastic solution to a lot of things for me.

So I would be interested in the monitor and the tekkeon battery mount you have for 15mm rails. If you sell the tekkeon and cables/charger as well then that sounds great!

The HD component connections is all I need so SD component is a no no.

This all sounds great. I'm at least two weeks off of being able to make an order anyway and probably closer to a month anyway.

Just so I know you mention that in your prototype that you used RCA connectors but they would be BNC connectors for the final, did that affect picture quality at the time?

I'm so excited.

Cool

Thanks.

Hi Richard (Major),

the RCA connectors and BNC connectors to my knowledge do not affect picture quality.(but I'll let anyone who knows otherwise jump in and correct me here) It is my understanding that the reason people rather have the BNC is because is a more secure connection. (Hence you find that type of connection in professional equipment more often)

As for the Tekkeon Battery, I'll see if I can become a distributor for them, but I'm not sure what it entails. I'll let you know.

Thanks again for you interest.

Luis.

Luis that sounds great.

I understand about the BNCs now. especially as the HVX cable that was supplied has Component HD to RCA and then there are RCA to BNC adaptors in the kit.

Also if I have to get the tekkeon battery and cables from somewhere else, at least I know they work with your set up from the get go - so that is all fine!!

People keep advising me to buy V-mount batteries if I were to go for the marshall, but they are super expensive.

$116 USD for the Tekkeon sounds great. The more you tell me the more I'm seeing all this as the solution to my monitoring needs and also it can run other stuff !!!

How much is the tekkeon battery mount you've made? Also does it lock the battery to the rails?

Also one last thing, I've PM'd you a seperate message so get back to me on that when you can. Thanks!

Brilliant!

Any more pictures

Luis,

I think you should encourage the Tekkeon option strongly. It is the best all-purpose battery out there. It is inexpensive. It is lightweight. I would also like to see it mounted via some sort of clip for easy removal so that the battery could be used for other purposes if not using the monitor-- or for quick change in the event it needs to be swapped for a fully-charged unit.

For folks considering the monitor, I'm also thinking the the SDI option is worth the difference. That would also enable it to be used in an editing scenario from SDI card or from MXO (granted, you could use component from MXO or card, but there are obvious advantages to staying digital when possible).
