Handling Noise for Lavaliers

Good day everyone. Recently I purchased 2 units of Audio Technica 2000 series. It comes with an AT898Wc lavalier mic which i found very sensitive to handling noise. I found out that even the wire is very sensitive to fabric scratches. I tried some test by looping few inches of its wire near the mic but discovered that the sensitivity also go the distance as though it maintain a (virtual) distance from the mic.

Could anybody share a technique on how to eliminate handling noise to lavs this sensitive? Any special accessories that could eliminate this noise? I'm considering buying DPA mic concealer I found in B&H store since the size is very much close to AT898Wc. Is this an effective solution? How about the wire? How could i conceal them since the concealer covers only the mic?

Thank you in advance and I hope, if someone there could share his personal technique in handling such problem, is very much appreciated.

Thanks Mike. For a while, as I try to save some extra penny for an AT899 or other brand, still, if anybody there have their own technique or ways to share how could I make use the most of my present stuff.

One more thing, is it ok to connect different mics to my present AT Unipak? There are unterminated Sanken COS11 mics (I don't know for EMW, B3 or B6). I'm sorry but have no idea how to connect or "terminate" it to match AT's Unipack transmitter (I'm checking AT's website though).

Thank you.

A cardioid lav can be nice in a high noise environment that you want good isolation for the person in. I was able to get decent results by making a "floating loop" like it says in the article as well as taping down the entire length of the wire between the loop and the transmitter. That can help. Keeping the wire away from parts of the talent that may move is good too. A windscreen will help with popping p's. A rycote furry lav jammer will help in wind. You can make it work with some practice, get a friend and experiment. Then save up for a sanken cos11 (buy it pre-wired for your AT system or have someone who knows what they are doing solder it for you).

Good luck!

Thanks! I called our local AT dealer and they reserved AT899cw for me. I'll be testing it soon to see the difference.

And sure, Sanken COS11 is on my wishlist already. Duro gid nga salamat.
