What are you guys keeping the HVX stopped to:

I was under the impression the HVX was basically made to be shot wide open, as in there isn't much difference in the sharpness. I might be mistaken though, I know there's a huge difference on the DVX.

I've done considerable focus testing with the HVX and M2. I was kicking myself in the ass one day for not getting PERFECT edge to edge focus. Finally I tried stopping my HVX down just a little and the detail on the edges of my frame really came forward.

I've found my edge to edge sharpness highly benefits from stopping the hvx down just a little to 2.8 or 3.4.

Try it with a resolution test. You'll most likely see the same results.

I generally like to try to keep my hvx at 2.8 to 5.6 whenever possible... whether with or without an adapter. 2.8 is where I like to try to hang though.

Although in Barry's book doesn't it say [correct me if I'm wrong] that if you are wider than F2.0 then you have about 15% less resolution in the image compared to say F2.8 - F8.0. Anything over F8.0 is also supposed to drop resolution [or was that over F9.whatever?].

Me personally I also try to keep it between F2.8 and F5.6. If I'm shooting with the SGPRO adaptor depending on light conditions I try to keep the HVX at F4.0 and then go wide to F1.4 on the Zeiss unless I have more light available or if the depth of field is too much of an issue.

I like to have the best focus and resolution possible on the ground glass just incase I'm off with the HVX focusing on the ground glass and then I have all sorts of options. Also as the Zeiss and Nikons shouldn't have a reduced resolution even open it means that they can be and still record the same high quality image.

I try to keep away from going over F5.6 by using ND filters either built in or in the matte box.

Thanks,
Richard
