Which mic to use?

I will be filming a High School Drama presentation and want some advice regarding what michrophone to use.
I will be approximately 25-40 feet from the stage/actors and I will be using a mic stand.

I have two options for a microphone, AT897 or Oktava MK012 w/Rycote BBG & Softie.

I won't have any opportunity for any testing before hand so I am just looking for any advice from someone with more experience than I.

Thanks

Unfortunately, not for this first production. Maybe long term.

I know this won't be the best, I'm just trying to get as good as possible given the situation.

Neither mic will really work for you perfectly, but if I had to make a choice, I would probably go with the 897 for the extra reach - though you will pick up a lot of reverb from the room with that mic. The Octava probably doesn't have enough reach from 40' away.

Check to see if the theater has a monitoring system (many theaters have a mic hung above the stage so people backstage can hear. You might be able to plug into that system on one channel and use your 897 on the other.

im not a theater guy, but i think you could get a couple of pzm for $25 each and have them on stage near audience

i believe pzms will pick a lot of foot steps. I would go lavs all the way for this but then you need to worry for feedback. This needs day of testing from my experience. Sorry

Thanks for all the input.
I think there would be too many actors and scene changes involved to use Lav's. Second I don't have access to any.

This is something I do for fun and for free so there are some bugetary concerns.

Knowing that there is no house system to tie into and that Lav's are probably not going to work and I will not be able to hang anything closer to the stage.

Is there a mic anyone would recommend over the 897 and MK012?

Thanks

Sorry to bring this back up but now we are good to hang a couple of mic's above the stage.
My question is what would be the best choice of mic for this situation?

My first thought is to get another Oktava MK012 (is it OK if they are not a matched pair?) as these are very small and inconspicuous. Is it a must to use a wind screen of some sort?

I thought I would feed both stage mic's into one channel and mount the AT-897 on the camera to pick up off stage conversations as the actors move closer to the camera.

Just looking for any advice you all have to offer.
