Rendering video using Vegas 7 for Youtube...

One thing many people don't realize is that despite youtube re-encoding to 320x240, the DEFAULT size of the player is actually LARGER! It's SOOOOO stupid in my opinion. They actually downres it to 320x240, then turn around and play the freakin file at a scaled size that's bigger. Doh! There's a little tool you can click on the player to force it to play at 320x240, but no one uses it. So, that screws you right there no matter how you encode.

The other thing to keep in mind is that they have a 100 mb upload limit. SO TAKE ADVANTAGE of that. I shoot to encode as close to 100 mb file as I can regardless of how long the clip is. Try to use as high a bitrate as possible and come under their limit. FWIW, I render to MP4 640x480 straight out of Vegas for YouTube.

The highest bitrate for Sony Vegas's bitrate is "768,000", is this good enough to reach under the 100MB limit?...

In other words, how do I make sure any video I make is just under 100mb's, so that the quality is good, in Sony Vegas.

Is this camcorder worth buying? The file type is MPEG4 (H.264), where my current camcorders file type is MPEG2...

The editing workflow for that codec is in very early development. My suggestion is if you want to edit the footage, to make sure you know what your editing workflow is going to look like with that cam before you go AVCHD. That said, it's a very efficient codec (more bang for the mb/gb buck so to speak, but you need VERY good hardware to edit real time, either that or you need to transcode to CINEFORM or something like that to do so.

You can use higher bit rates than that easily.
