So are you *sure* you want to be a millionaire?

I think it all boils down to the old saying, Money is the root of all evil. But I think it is more like the love of money is the root. Greed has a way of making you miserable.

Why not set up a foundation to donate money to charities & causes as seen fit. Redirect the freeloaders to an organization that delegates where the "donatable" money should go.

That would keep some people from pestering you all day. But yes, being publicized as a 300 million dollar winner comes with its drawbacks.

I find it hilarious that the guy, even after winning, would continue to buy $100 in lottery tickets. Makes me wonder what other forms of gambling he participated in. Gambling really is an addiction eh?

I guess the next question is, if you were to win a big lottery payoff, where would you put the money that you allocate to charity?

Me, I'd endow scholarships for students from underfunded/underperforming school districts, and a pediatric cancer center for a local hospital. *edit* plus a level III shock-trauma center...

And yes, the saying goes that it is the love of money, that is the root of all evil.

I always liked my father's take on it: Money is like steer manure. If you spread it around, it can make a lot of good things grow. If you pile it up in one place, it just stinks.

The first saying you quoted is truncated from the real saying, which you alluded to later.

The love of money is the root of all evil, which I believe is from the Bible, places the responsibility on the person, not the object. People like to lay blame, but we usually have a hand in the mistakes we make and the things that happen to us.
