De Niro, Pacino Team for Indie Movie

well, now news comes that the movie is going straight to video: http://www.aintitcool.com/node/34011.

wow, a deniro/pacino movie going straight to video. i guess in this day and age when every movie is geared towards the 13 year old, a movie about a couple of old guys doesn't hold a lot of weight.

Saw DeNiro filming a night scene the other day in New Haven, CT. This after I saw Harrison Ford filming Indiana IV here in August. Quite an exciting year here, filmwise.

You're looking into the wrong movie. The movie you're looking at is "88minutes" (only Pacino is on it)...but it was a piece of crap and it was also directed by Jon Avnet.

Maybe they can play the caricatures of each other, instead of themselves. Can't imagine it being anything but predictable and boring any other way.

Pacino peaked for me before 1980 and I haven't watched DeNiro for years. Two of the most overly lauded actors in the world IMHO. Not because of what they can do (which can be brilliant), but because of what they choose to do (shich ranges from the moronic to the expected)

But I honestly hope I am wrong. The potential is astounding.

That is a bold statement because neither of them have really done anything worthwhile in almost a decade.

It would be really great if they chose this particular film to finally raise from the ashes. I don't expect it to be this way though. The storyline is such a cliché. A De Niro/Pacino project should be handled by a director of a bigger caliber, like Scorsese or Coppola, after a solid script had been developed. God, can you imagine what a waste?! You have 2 of the most gifted actors of all time and you choose to give them guns and make them chase people instead of exploiting their acting potential. It's not everyday that you'll have the chance to have these 2 legends sharing the screen.

Just saw the trailer while watching the Olympics. Didn't look bad and I'd look forward to this...but 50 cent? You kidding me? What's with the rapper turned actor thing?

Ice Cube is in every other movie and Ice T has been on a TV show for ions and they are both HORRIBLE actors. I feel like they are being rammed down my throat. I can't deal. Though, Queen Latifa aint bad...but I digress...

LL cool J is not bad, Will Smith and Latifah have both been nominated for Oscars. Rappers turned actors are not a bad thing. And 50 can do it as well. It takes years to master the craft. Anyone that is worth 300 million off of rap music just knows what they are doing. Most rappers want to be actors because the checks are bigger and they come faster. Music money can sometimes take years to get, unless your on tour or getting booked for TV, or single shows. Rappers have to diversify because Album sales are way down. most make pennies compared to actors. my 2.

Sorry, can't agree here. By that logic Britney Spears should be the next Meryl Streep. Rappers are mostly poor actors because they are too busy looking "hard" and unable to be emotionally vulnerable.

With all due respect, I have to disagree about the "rappers not being a bad thing" comment. LL Cool J. is a T.E.R.R.I.B.L.E actor. A friggin' nightmare on screen. His ego seeps through the credits, imo.

Will Smith is absolutely fun as hell to watch. But, we are not dealing with your run of the mill "rapper". Will Smith has always approached rapping as a comedian. He has always had the smell of a rapper who was really always a comedian/tv sitcom/SNL actor in the wings. He's a rare talent. I’ll even consider Marky Mark as a decent actor. He’s actually a Bizzaro example; he’s a bad rapper turned good actor.
Queen Latifa, as I mentioned earlier, is a surprise. I actually look forward to her when I know she’s in a flick. She brings it.

But, as a general rule, it’s common to see rappers turned untalented actors. Plus, I feel the Producers are trying to manipulate me when I am watching a movie or show that stars a bad actor/former rapper. I get the feeling that the producers only cast the rapper to reach a certain demographic. It’s the only way I can explain it. Especially since there are countless more talented actors out there ready to handle that role. As I've already said twice...the two Ice's are not worthy of the acting shoes they are trying to fill.

As for movie money coming in quicker than music money...I can't debate that. I will say that I don't think that can possibly be accurate. Money is money. If you sell a kajillion albums I don't quite see how movies can be more lucrative for you. I think rappers act because their ego is stroked ("oh please Mr. Ice, we need you in this movie, you are the only talent we see in this role), its fun (whose never wanted to sit in a darkened theater and see their names/faces in an awesome flick?) and mostly, because they become an enterprise; a one man/woman entertainment show. Rap, Sing, Movies, Act, Direct etc. etc. etc.

But I digress....Ice T and Ice Cube are still horrible actors. And they have been doing it for YEARS. Take a freaking class man...don't waste our time....

I agree with you Batutta….rappers do seem to try too hard to perpetuate that “hard street” life. It makes for a very unconvincing actor…

You can sell millions of albums and not make a million dollars. That is a fact. Record sales make up such a small portion of your income. You might get 20 to 30 cents per record your first time out. and then they have to recoup any advance money and video costs. depending on director could hit you for 200,00 or more. You get a part in a movie, they pay you. no waiting on royalty checks, no touring for a year straight. Just a check and depending on your star power that could be more than you made off the actual sales of you record. Unless your a mega star that gets $2.00 per Album, You have to tour, you have to market yourself to be rich. 50 made money in every way you possibly could. Clothing, Drinks, Video Games, etc. If that man wants to act. I could care less. I still enjoy seeing rappers in movies. Most of them are not good I agree, but Cube is doing his thing in Hollywood. Period. He has made a career out of his "Horrible" acting after his music became less popuar. I would work with Ice Cube in a second because people go see his movies. The movies that Cube Vision produces always get green lit and always make their money back. good or bad. CUbe and T don't need to take acting classes my friend. T has been on Network TV for years and Cube is always on set either as an actor or producer or both.

As far as casting for a demographic, I totally agree. That is business. If I have Brad Pitt and Julia Roberts in a romantic comedy why not cast andre benjamin as the best friend and get that extra few million from a different audience you may not have gotten otherwise. The money Rappers bring in is much more than what the studio will pay them. Profit margin. Business, Plain and simple if you ask me.

Take american gangster. Denzel, Russel, Common, The RZA, and T.I. I loved seeing that and every one in that film did a decent enough job for me.

Maybe I was not clear Battuta. I said he knew was he was doing, not that he was a good actor. Because 50 is not a good actor.

it all goes back to the cliche. Actors want to be rock stars, rock stars want to be actors. the trend will never stop. "I'm a gangster grandad"...taken from the thespian fiddy cent.
