I'm determined to find funding with Ebay!!

I think that filmmakers have to be the most unique fundraisers. We think of any and everyway to raise funds. Well, I am determined to find a way through Ebay. That's right Ebay! I've been doing tons of research and I think I'm on the verge of something. So what I'm going to do is keep a weekly journal, you could say using this forum to update you guys. I'm going to give it 90 days. If in 90 days I don't come up with at least $1500, I'm going to give up. BUT, if I do succeed, I will be sure to share exactly what I did, so you guys can earn money for your films a little easier as well.

Wish me luck!

Be careful to not make any offer of investments. You could get in hot water. Its always good to consult a CPA and attorney first before raising $

Just please don't do like some other would-be filmmakers have done on Ebay -- stating they want to have the LONGEST list of Executive Producers ever! What a horrible idea that is.

I've tinkered with ideas for raising funds via Ebay before, though never tried any. For instance, for my feature 'Vampire Chicks From Uranus', I considered auctioning off just ONE Executive Producer credit. I would set a starting bid of something substantial -- maybe $10,000. In addition to the credit, the winning bidder would get round-trip airfare and accommodations to come and spend 2 days on the set during shooting. We'd get some footage of him/her that would be included in the 'special features' of the DVD. There would also be a script, poster and cast photo -- all personally autographed by the cast and crew. And maybe even a return trip for the premiere screening. And, of course, a pre-release copy of the DVD, custom labeled and boxed. All this would go to the highest bidder.

But I think the key to such an auction being successful would be to LET PEOPLE KNOW about it. That means hitting every online forum you can think of where qualified potential executive producers might hang out -- pointing them to your auction. A well designed, professional looking website would help as well.

Let us know how it goes. Good luck!

To be honest I never thought about doing an auction like that. I'm simply trying to raise funds any way I can. So far I've made $15.84 profit from the day I posted this thread. I'm trying to find a way to increase that figure, but I can't ask for too much, it's still early in the game. Hopefully I figure out a "system" that way everyone can raise money for there film more easily.

Have you read any of George Romero's books? It pays to have a good relationship with a well-established dentist.

If you want to make money the proper way on ebay, as opposed to some sort of scam or flakey arrangements, it will take a lot of work on your behalf. Get up early on trash day and make your rounds. Anything that is in decent shape can be cleaned up and sold. Hit yard sales and flea markets looking for almost give away prices. Of course, when all is said and done, it would have been easier to just get a job and save up like everyone else.

This is good stuff. With the help you guys and some pretty interesting books I've read, I really think this can be accomplished. I've figured out/learned alot about how ebay sellers increase there sells tremedously! I'll keep in touch.

I've got some good news, even though I'm not going the tradition route with ebay, for those that do, craiglist can help. Go to their free section and resell the items you get that are worth selling. I made $212 this weekend. I got a free 27'' tv, a free verizon cell phone(they switched carriers), a 5 piece suitcase set, a DVD entertainment system (almost kept it for myself) and an old camera, but I didn't sell that. I gave it to a friend.
That isn't the only way I made my money this weekend. During the week I spent 2 hours a day researching wholsalers and made my own wholesale list. I sold them for $5 each and sold 6, get the picture?

I think I'm on my way to reaching my goal!

I'm selling wholesale list on eBay for $9.99 each. I list the auction for 1 day, and so far I've sold five the last 2 days. That was an easy $50 in 2 days.

is the website that help me to make my own wholesale list to sell to others. You guys should check it out! And its a free guide!

I raise money by having local companies donate items and hold auctions at my civic center. I've raised $2300 doing this last year. Maybe you should try that along with the ebay thing.

Who ever said you couldn't mix pleasure and busines is probaly disfunctionally. Information products on ebay sell like hot cakes. Video tutorials sell fast as well. I hooked up with a local car detailer to interview him on the business, how to actually clean the car step by step (we shot him cleaning). Did you know I sold three of these 11 minute videos for $14 in 3 days. It may not seem like much, but I'm getting paid to do something I love!

Sell roles in your next film

Sell roles in your next film

Why not auction off starring roles in a film, sell 6 or 7 roles, Then have a writer(maybe one you get by auctioning that to) to write a script. Why not auction off the whole thing. Just put available for bidding every part from cast to crew up for auction and see what happens. IG

It's been done. "Who Wants To Be A Movie Star" - look it up. They ran into problems with the California labor laws -- turns out paying someone else for the right to get a job wasn't legal, or something like that. And the resulting film didn't exactly set box office records.

I never thought of auctioning off roles, but it seems tha Barry Green says it's been done, and illegally. Maybe, I'll just stick to info products. I found that video products sell well. And since I have a dvx100, well.. I found that business videos sell well, like how to start a car detail biz.

So almost two months ago, I made a goal to raise over $1000 in 90 days. I have another month to go and so far I've only raised $682.91. I've taken a lot of you guys advice and I want to thank you all for your help. One day, I'll master both ebay and fundraising.
