Hiya, I know this has been discussed.

I'm about to buy this Marshall monitor for my HVX 1080P focussing needs. Can you guys who have it recommend it?

Here is a link to the product:

1. Will the image be enough resolution to be able to focus correctly?

2. Also as I am using the SGPRO 35mm adaptor does the marshall have a flip image? The arm I have will hold the monitor only one way up unless it has mounts on top and bottom.

3. Does the component HD signal receive a 1080 from the HVX?

4. Also do you know if it also shows the focus assist zoom view the HVX finder displays?

5. The battery option is this an easy to buy and charge option? ITs a V mount battery plate? IS it a sony battery and are the chargers cheap?

Thanks in advance,

Richard Morgan

I highly recommend the Marshall. I can't imagine working without it. The image is very sharp and perfectly suited to dealing with focus. It does not have a flip function but does have a mount on top and bottom. Yes, the monitor receives 1080 or 720 from the camera depending on your recording preference. You will only see focus assist in the on-board LCD and view finder. The v-mount can be a Sony battery or for me- I use IDX batteries which are a little cheaper. I don't use the batteries directly on the monitor. I use a Zacuto battery plate and rig and use the V-mounts to power my Marshall and Firestore. I can't recall the selling price of the IDX batteries right now- check out B&H or some of the other retailers for price quotes.

Although the Marshall mounts upside down, to do so you have to unscrew the lug and attach it again to the top. A pain to do every time you use it upside down so order some extra lugs.

They are right at the bottom. IN the UK I ordered mine through Ktek and they were with me in a couple of days. Ask Creative if they can get them for you. Write down the part number V-LCD70TMB-02. Well worth the £20.

Thanks guys that information has been really helpful.

It sounds like the one to go for.

As the monitor is going to be my framing monitor when handheld on my SGPRO rig with a battery in front this may be too heavy on the front end attached to the monitor. I know the Zacuto was mentioned, but is there another option that I can use as my rail system won't be compatible with the zacuto.

Thanks again for the all the advice.

Why wouldn't it be compatible with the Zacuto grips? Are you going to use the SG Pro rails support? If you are using standard 15mm rails, I don't see why it won't be compatible with zacuto mounts. You may just need to purchase longer rails. Zacuto sells em. Cinevate has carbon fiber versions. Maybe wayne can configure rails that extend through the rear for you?

Thanks Arrik,

To be honest I need longer rails anyway ready for the RedRockMicro matte box so I should look into that. I am currently using only the SGPRO rails support, so I'll drop Wayne an email and see if he does longer rods.

The only other thing is all my budget is going into the Marshall and a 16gb card. So for now I will just have to consider the battery on the marshall but have to compensate for the increase in weight.

Thanks for all your help.

Richard
