A moment of silence please...

to remember all the fallen at ground zero. My sister lost 40+ friends in that tragedy and still has yet to recover from it. She and her husband were lucky they happen to be on vacation that day and were spared but scarred. When they got back they had to go dig and her husband found his old partner for 6 years buried and broken. He pulled him out and held him. I can't imagine the emotional scars that must have left but he still stands strong. My sister is a NYC Firefighter and her husband is now a NYC Fire Marshall.

My grandma died two years ago on this day. I reflect about her on 9/11 but I also celebrate one of my best friend's birthdays. Its tough for him.

my heart goes out to them and all the rest

That was an awful day. I was in school in Manhatten when it happened. I was all the way uptown but i'll never forget that day and the days that followed, the smell in the air and the unity and quietness after chas that came. We will always miss the twin towers and everyone that lost their lives in that horrific tragedy 6 years ago today. God Bless.

Wow, Aram, that is truly tragic. I am so sorry. That is a lot for your sister and her husband to bear.

I am glad we still remember... even though it was tragic, and terrible, we need to remember to honor those who died that day, and who have died since, defending our country. Thanks for this thread Aram.

I had never been to New York, until Sept 16th 2001.
One of my best friends got married that week - and that is still the only time I've ever been to that city.

I know my impression of it is not a normal one - but I can honestly say the day I got there is still burned in my brain as though it happened this morning.

What was seen on television did not do it justice in the least.

I remember thinking I should take photos for the sake of posterity...but not really feeling like it.
I did it anyhow, thinking I would regret it later if I didn't.

I've actuallly never gone back to look at them.
I'm sure they're still somewhere in my house...but I have no idea where.

I had dinner at Windows on the World at the top of the WTC. You can't get the real feeling of how tall these things were on tv. Sad day indeed.

I remember exactly where I was 6 years ago today. I was a sophomore in high school. I walked into history class and remember seeing the first tower with smoke coming out of it. Then as I sat down, I saw the 2nd plane hit. I was shocked. I had no idea what happened. I asked my teacher what happened to the first tower, and he said it too was hit by a plane. I knew right then, something wasn't right. I knew it wasn't an accident. I was so confused. I didn't know what the hell else was going to happen. We sat and watched the news the rest of the period, and that's when we found out that D.C. was attacked too. We weren't sent home that day, which looking back on, we shoulda been. The rest of the day I was glued to the tv. As soon as I got home that day, I called my friends that live on Long Island, to make sure they were all right (they work in the city). I was relieved when I found out they were ok, but felt so devasted for the rest of the families that lost family members/friends on that tragic day...

I still remember where I was for every horrific moment of that day. And while the day itself will -- and should -- always live on in infamy, the date will always be a fairly happy one for me: I met my wife on September 11, 2002.

And for something else a bit unexpected and uplifting: http://www.adhole.com/?p=139

Both my daughters saw it happening from their school yards and remember everyone running around like crazy. My older daughter remembers waiting for my mother to come pick her up ( i was recovering from a hernia operation), and sitting there next to her friend and she said my dad works in that building. When my mother got there she decided to stay and help and the girls father never came to get her. Then it turned out that he didn't make it out of there. :(
