What are you listening to? I'm getting old, I need new music

Alright - so I've got too much of the same stuff rotating through iTunes.
I'm hoping to open myself up to some new stuff...so lets hear what everyone else out there is listening to.

Here's my status at the moment:

MOST RECENTLY BOUGHT: Spoon, Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga

MOST RECENTLY PLAYED: Getz/Gilberto

MOST PLAYED ON ITUNES: Belle & Sebastian, Dog on Wheels

So.... what have you got?
I need some new inspiration.

My list of music is all jumbled. I like a bit of everything.

Right now:

Brian Setzer (Solo and the Orchestra)
Cobra Starship
Tenacious D
The Killers
Theory of a Deadman
Bela Fleck and the Flecktones
Big Bad Voodoo Daddy
Cherry Poppin' Daddies
Harry Connick Jr
John Lennon
Paul McCartney
Meat Loaf
U2
Weird Al
The Rat Pack
Led Zeppelin
AC/DC
Jimi Hendrix
Louis Armstrong

Can't remember what else.... That should be enough to get you started

Hmmm...how open minded are you?

Echo & The Bunnymen - Siberia (Stormy Weather is amazing)
Cat Power - The Greatest (The Greatest is such a good song)
Kathleen Edwards - Failer, Back To Me (In State off her 2nd CD is textbook rock)
Hawksley Workman - Lover/Fighter (good to the last drop..met him, nice guy)
Travis - The Invisible Band (was a gift...surprised at how good it was)
Bebel Gilberto - (pretty much anything she does is good, moody stuff)
Bob Dylan - Time Out Of Mind, Love & Theft, Modern Times (just the first 2 can last you for months)
Pino Daniele - Bella 'mbriana (Neapolitan blues/jazz/funk genius...25 years old and still rocks)
Fonky Family - Marginale Musique (Hip Hop from Marseilles. Title track schools anything 'urban' from North America that you hear on radio.)
Eels - Shootenanny! (Love Of The Loveless, Dirty Girl....)
Nick Cave And The Bad Seeds - Nocturama (Bring It On...'nuff said.)
Bruce Springsteen - Magic (doesn't come out until October, but you can download Radio Nowhere on iTunes...was free last I checked.)

That was fun.

I used to do music journalism, but I never got to write about the stuff I liked. Instead it was nu-metal and emo, and crap...I did get to interview some pretty big names in music, though.

I know this stuff isn't exactly new, but if you haven't heard it, it's new to you. (Ahh, NBC...such beautiful logic.)

I'm listening to the soundtrack of Buffy the Vampire Slayer's musical episode "Once More With Feeling". Who can resist the song "The Parking Ticket" by Joss Whedon:

I've been having a bad, bad day.
C'mon won't you put that pad away?
I'm asking you please, noooo
It isn't right, it isn't fair,
There was no parking anywhere.
I think that hydrant wasn't there.
Why can't you let it go?
I think I've paid more than my share,
I'm just a poor girl, don't you care?
Hey, I'm not wearing underwear....

Baroness - The Red Album
Aesop Rock - None Shall Pass
Saviours - Crucifire
Early Man - Closing In
Lil Wayne - Da Drought III (mixtape)
Dock Boggs - The Complete Works of Dock Boggs

RJS

Refused - The Shape of Punk to Come. Greatest album period.

Most recent CD I bought was by The Gallows (Orchastra of Wolves), but I'm currently going through a '90s throwback phase.

Shameless plug:

If you're on itunes and your searching around anyway..... check out my stuff- Uncle Salty's Cabin. The self titled disc is kind of blues rock and the "hooch radio 109.9fm" disc is just kind of a melting pot of stuff......

As for what's on my ipod, I just finished converting all 150 of my cd's dating back to the 80's. Going through all that was a shock at some of the crap I actual bought at one time. No wonder my dad thought I had no musical taste.
Now I have a two racks of coasters......

I take it you like the softer-but-not-mainstream stuff:

Sigur Ros - Ágætis Byrjun is superb, ( ) is beyond description, Takk... is a dream. This is the band that was used in the Children of Men trailer btw. In Icelandic. Guitar played with a violin bow.
Cranes - Wings of Joy (only good one. everything went downhill after this album)
Sekiden - Junior Fiction (funny cute lo-fi underground stuff)
Goldfrapp - Felt Mountain (superbe - everything else is not)
Peeping Tom (best.cover.ever. somewhat out there. only time you'll ever hear the words "motherf*cker* come out of Norah Jones' lips on an album)
Athlete - Tourist (the song "Wires" alone makes this album worth the money. It's the song used in the new TLC ad for the ER show)
Jaga Jazzist - The Stix (if you're into jazz, this is the ****)
Katie Melua - Piece by Piece (HUGE hit in Europe, like Norah Jones but less jazzy. "I Cried for You" is a masterpiece)
Seigmen - Total (possibly the best album ever recorded. quite dark. and in Norwegian. Produced by Sylvia Massey. every person I've ever played it for has been mesmerized)
Essbjorn Svensson Trio - From Gagarin's Point of View (more jazz. very impressive stuff. not at all what you think. only piano player I've seen that plays the strings of the piano with a pick)
Matthew Good - In A Coma (the best-of album of one of the best canadian musicians to never make it internationally. this guy is beyond description and if it wasn't for his nasty attitude he would have been HUGE)
Ron Sexsmith - Retriever (I thought I would hate this album. I was wrong. It's very good)
Wallflowers - Bringing Down the Horse is very good, Red Letter Days is pretty much perfect. And unlike his dad Bob, Jacob Dylan can actually sing.

I'm going to bed. don't listen to all that hyped up crap. it's the unknown stuff that will really rock your world

+1

I just discovered Sigur Ros a few months back. Take a long walk or drive by yourself and listen to some of their songs. I can't find the words to describe it, you just have to hear it.
