I said cash, but the transaction was through a credit card...paid off immediately. Hard to send cash through my computer.

Work underpaid me for 3 or 5 years (I forget which) and I got the back pay in a lump, so...a DVX, an Epi Les Paul and Peavey amp, a shotgun mike, a 503/525 tripod, and a round-trip from here to the States.

Now Im just wondering if they've underpaid me again...will find out sometime within a year. :)

I posted this before but what I did was to apply for a zero percent APR credit card. And then take the money that I would have paid the camera with and put that in a 9 month/1 year CD. That way I am not getting charged any interest. When it comes time to pay the card off the money I put aside in the CD has actually grown.

I got a 0% 12 month APR card from Amex (15,000 limit), bought the camera and other stuff with that (~8,000 total). Now I do not have to pay off that until the next year and no interest is applied until the end if I do not pay it off fully (though I do have to pay the minimum monthly charge, about 200)

Then I took the 8,000 I would have paid and put that into a 6.00% yield account that I can withdraw from in 10 months with no penalty.

So by the end of the year I will have the money to pay off the camera and have actually made money.

Though all this depends on being able to get a 0% APR card with high enough limit.

Must be nice having 10k laying around. "Oh you're rich? Here let us give you more money. Oh you're poor, good.. excellent.. you'll be in hock for life."

Am I the only one who objects to the term "camcorder" here? :)

To me, a camcorder is something you buy at Walmart or Best Buy. You know, something for home movies. So calling the DVX a camcorder is like calling a Ducati a "moped."

:)

I think the point was that IF you have the cash - it sometimes still makes sense to borrow the money anyway. As long as you are diligent about the payments it can actually save you money.

It's a camera section plus a recorder section in a small-format package. That's a camcorder - no matter how wonderful a camcorder, it is.

If Ducati made something in moped format...that would be a Ducati moped.

camera + recorder = camcorder.

Like it or not, we're using camcorders. I think even the DVX manual describes it as such. I like the idea that I'm using "cheap" technology to make work I hope to put up along side the big boys.

Oh, and I bought mine through a loan I'm still paying off... But my fundraising is starting to look promising (crosses fingers and says a prayer).
